Like one or two others, your sorry tale is a wake-up call - Did the ASR fail without warning? Alternatively, can it be expected to deal with extremes where perhaps turbos were already on boost and kick down suddenly applied?

in bad weather on bends & sliproads etc I always knock the car down to 2nd or 3rd so it holds the gear & doesnt change unexpectedly. Seems to have worked so far.
