Once in the Cgt at spa i had this guy in a 997 gt3 rs go past me a couple of times .later obviously he couldn't see which way the Cgt went . I hadnt even registered this until I was upstairs at lunch time having a coffee when he was telling his friends about the black Cgt and its two drivers , how one was st and the other was his instructor . I didn't have the heart to tell him there was one driver and I was on cool down laps when he overtook ...
I just let them take the Mickey out of the "rich tt" in his Cgt

Exactly my point about so many variables. Track days are more about bar room willy waving storys rather than a true test of driver and equipment.

A few years ago at Spa you was in the pit next door with your CGT, regretted not asking for a passenger lap ever since...frown
I agree , the attitude of some people is very odd on trackdays . There's so much going on , people trying different things indontvthinknits possible to judge that sort of stuff .
As for the passenger laps I'm sorry we didn't catch up .
Mate I spend half my track days doing passenger laps , charity driving , demonstaration laps etc , it would have been and would be my pleasure to have taken/take you out . I'm doing a couple spa days next year so hope to meet up .

"Built not bought" can arguably be more satisfying than the other way around, I own some cheap tat too, and it is quite fun to beat flagships with a men in shed mobile.
But I would also like to be able to afford to buy a 458, that could be satisfying too!

Who's to say the Ferrari driver isn't enjoying himself just as much?

They both look like they are enjoying themselves, that's all that matters surely?

The MGB is clearly a very well developed race car, not sure there's much MGB left mind.

haha! I deliberately make a point of going so slow on cooldown laps that there's no mistaking it!

the 458 wasn't being driven well on that video

I know that MGB very well and it's owner/driver, it's not a race car at all, it's a road legal track car. I have spent many hours on track with that one, it's pretty quick. I have seen quicker, but it wasn't a Ferrari smile I had better not say what car was quicker, it won't go down well here smile

So how much MGB is there in it?

I hadn't thought of that, but yes it is quicker. I was thinking of my brothers MGB GT, that is way quicker and I don't think the OP will mind me saying, but that laps about 6 seconds a lap faster that this one. Never seen a supercar get near it. That MGB GT is also not a racecar, but a road legal track car.

If that helps. I thought 2 MGB's whooping Ferrari's might be a bit much.....

Surprisingly, more than you'd think. It has Leaf springs and live axle, whole MGB chassis, many other parts too. It's amazing what can be done. OK the engine is the famous old Rover V8, which was original but many of the parts inside are updated of course. You have to respect the engineering that can make such an old car and an old design compete with and often beat modern supercars. It doesn't make super cars bad, is shows how British ingenuity can create something of our past. Bring it on.

Is it competing with it or just on the same trackday?

In reality its fair to say its being driven quicker than that particular Ferrari on that particular day, quicker than a 458 on any other day with drivers of equal ability is just

Out of all Ferrari's I have seen on track with the pair of MG's I refer to, I have never seen one get near their pace. Perhaps that's delusional too ... but it is true.

I'm not sure what point is trying to be made here any more.

We've got a very good driver, in a very well developed track car, on a circuit he knows very well judging by the number of youtube clips.
He's very commited, going quick and clearly enjoying himself, that's great and the car is an impressive bit of work.

Then we've got a stock road car, driven by someone who may well be not as good a driver, isn't prepared to push as hard.

What's the comparison being made?

I don't believe anyone is saying that Ferrari, Porsche etc have wasted tens of years and hundreds of millions of pounds developing their cars, what they should have done is whacked a massive engine in a 50 year old Austin Cambridge convertible and wound up the lever arm dampers.

That would be stupid and I don't think anyone is saying that, so what's the point being made here?
