is the F type a supercar?

I have a 430 that I always considered a sports car.
Then I drove a new boxster, new 911 c4s and Mercedes AMG GTs. I now realise that the 430 is a supercar, after driving those other cars and then driving the 430, even though it is slower than the 991 and AMG GTS, it has a sense and feeling of occasion that only a supercar can provide.
I'm sure the f type is a fantastic car to own, but I very much doubt it will give many people that tingle that hitting the start button on even a fairly normal Ferrari (430) can provide, even a year or two into ownership. It will not turn you into an instant celebrity as you drive down the street, the 430 certainly does that! And it is not the same experience to just drive it down to the shops that the Ferrari provides.
I am not delusional, I know that a F430 Spider is still some way down the pecking order in terms of price and performance compared to other cars on the market, but my point is to say the experience of ownership with this car is something so different to precious cars I've owned (cars which have been equally as fast, more expensive, etc) that the only way I can categorise the car is as a supercar. It's the overall experience that makes me consider the car a supercar, not stats, price or even the badge.
Ultimately to me the f-type just does not deliver a true supercar experience, even though it is a beautiful car that is great to drive and has a truly superb soundtrack to boot. It's not necessarily less special, just different.
Exactly this. A super car should get kids exited and appear on posters. An Ftype, although a very fine car, isn't the dream of many kids. A red Ferrari, on the other hand is what kids dreams are made ofThen I drove a new boxster, new 911 c4s and Mercedes AMG GTs. You don't stop traffic in a Jag, but a Ferrari gets attention like nothing else
FWIW, my "cooking"Porsche 996 was called a supercar the other day
I chuckled to myself though. It's a super car to me, but certainly not a supercar. But to some people, such as those not driving anything as sporty/interesting, perhaps the definition is in the eye of the beholder.
I would personally class most V8 & V10 Ferraris as supercars. LaF, F40,50, Enzo are Hypercars.
Like Mclaren - everything in the range below the P1 are supercars.
Porsche make sports cars up to the point of "wow!" - granted it's a little difficult as they all kinda look the same, but the 918 is hypercar. 959 is supercar. Turbo/GT etc are sports cars.
Lambos are a little different, as *I* see them as supercars. Reventon is a Hypercar (although just).
Interesting topic - not serious in any way, but interesting nevertheless.

YES the F type R and SVR are supercars
but it is on the lower part of the list because of price $140k is almost low enough to to be afordable all of the leather and carbon fiber looks and quickness 0 to 60 in 3.2/3.5 and top speed 193 mph / 200mph witch i can tell you from personal experiance is not true I have had my R to 203 mph and it had more but I ran out of straight road noted that I had the electronic limeter deprogramed with the chip I installed

There are several key elements that make a supercar and you need to take all of those things in to account like the post I listed and I agree it is on the lower end of supercar it is still there I traded my farrari ff in for the R due to maintenance costs after my service warranty ran out due to drive time and ride and pure luxury along with looks sound basically wow factor I have been pulled over on several occasions by police just wanting to check it out never in the ff no tickets received even when deserved every time I drive it I get questions and comments not so much with the ff I don’t care what people think I know it is a supercar that’s why I bought 1 not about speed my Porsche is quicker but it’s twin turbo all wheel drive as well

That's just owners massaging their egos. Ferrari's supercars are things like the Ferrari La Ferrari and the F40 back in the day. The 599, like Jags and most other Ferraris are sports cars and sports GTs.
My view on this in ferrari termsLa Ferrari, enzo, f40 etc = HyperCars
The tier below = supercars
For me, 488’s, 458’s,430’s, 355’s aren’t In the same group as the jag mentioned and the likes to be classed as sports cars

This never ending sentence is difficult to read! The article in the previous link is total comedy too, real fanboy material. Some nice cars turn up in my gym car park. Sometimes I go in the 360 and park close to a lovely F-Type. As nice as the Jaguar is, and I do like them very much, when there's a mid-engined Ferrari close by it may as well be invisible.
I can't believe this debate is still raging
