I don't think the Aventador driving bloke saying "tourists come to see these cars driving about London and it brings a lot of business to the bars, restaurants and cafes" has a strong argument. If you look at the group of people who're only in central London because of these cars (and not just taking pics of cars they happen to be passing), how much do you think they're spending? They seem to be a group of pretty much < 18 male kids. Plus it also doesn't alter the fact there must be literally 1000's of more suitable locations within 15 minutes of Harrods that could equally benefit from this boost in business if it existed....

I think the major problem with "spotters" in London is the age groups.

I was fortunate to be "stuck" behind that white Novitec F12 earlier this year, possibly around this time last year (not 100% on the date) and whilst driving after it slowly down exhibition road and into south kensington (again I go into London about 4 times a year so this account may be geographically innaccurate) at one point a section of road opened up, we both accelerated to get through an amber traffic light.

Suddenly this 13-14 year old jumps out from the pavement behind the F12, and right infront of me. I slam my brakes on, manage to stop...JUST...but nearly hit this guy. He didn't even notice...just got his phone out and started recording this Ferrari.

My guess is he was a "spotter" and being 14, couldn't drive a car and doesn't realise that diesel a3's can't slow down like supercars... I nearly ran him over, if I had my guess is I would be in prison now for manslaughter, even though I was not speeding or drunk etc.

Everytime I watch spotting videos it is these 14 year olds running down the middle of the street after supercars.

If they are posting these to a monetized youtube channel then surely this is a business, surely it should require liability insurance and surely you should need to be 18 to work for it?

Where are the parents of these 13 year olds? When I was 13 I wasn't allowed within 200m of my house.

Why are you looking for blame when the phrase I have highlighted clearly shows you were in the wrong anyway. Oh dear...

Ah, the joys of not living anywhere near London smile

Personally I don't understand the huge attraction to the place.

ALl they need to do is stick two Cycle lanes down Sloane Street. That apparently solves all the worlds problems.

"AMBER means ‘Stop’ at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident"

Without trying to stir things up, you also mentioned that you both accelerated through an amber which technically would mean it was Amber before you reached the stop line. Mentioning that you accelerated doesn't help either as you're supposed to prepare to stop unless it's not safe to do so. Right or not just be careful what and how you post as you could incriminate yourself! Also, if the kid jumped in front of your car it would most likely be deemed an accident(traffic police would most likely be able to work out your speed and where you started braking etc)and you wouldn't be prosecuted for someone else's stupidity

Having also had kids run into the road in front too me and seen it happen to others, it needs to be acknowledged that there is a problem. I don't have a problem with spotters - it's actually I think great that kids are into cars and can actually see them close up. It's a pretty innocent hobby and I would say safer than going to football matches or just hanging around bored.

The issue around sloane street etc. requires some more consistent police presence where they can give the kids a telling off if they are endangering themselves but more importantly deal with the small number of idiots who drive dangerously. By that I mean those who for example are doing burn outs or endangering the lives of pedestrians (imagine if someone lost control into a crowd of kids). These should be dealt with under existing laws.

They already do this in Paris and Madrid, it was bound to come here. I think they'll make a fortune and they certainly won't allow any thrashing about because their licence to do it will be on a knife edge in that area, good luck to them.

Doesn't make sense? £99 a day. So that's under £3,700 a year to hire a car every day. That's less than a full service for some of the cars that I've owned!

I very tempted to call scam - unless someone can enlighten me?

£99 and the promise of no problems if it is written off? I wonder if their insurance really covers it.

As said doesn't really matter how short it is, what if the driver smashes it up? Easily done really, especially if you're not used to the power/RWD.

One would guess that they aren't insured during the hires, since I don't imagine any broker would actually insure literally anyone who pitches up with £99 in their pocket, regardless of age, points, experience (of big power), etc.

Perhaps they've got dual controls? The bloke could earn a few quid giving driving lessons in his downtime.
