Do you have to be rude to be a used prestige car dealer ?

Two memorable episodes.
Rover dealer, as I sat in the car, dealer says "It suits you sir", gave him 1 out of 10.
AUDI dealer when the A8 came out, I turned up on a Sunday, tee shirt and trainers with my young son, asked if they had an A8 demo.
Dealer picked up a set of keys, pointed to the A8 demonstrator, "There you are sir, go and have some fun".
Wow, 20 mins later as I returned the keys, I said "I thought you would have come with me", he said "I believe bums in seats sell cars not dealers".
And and no point did he ask to see my licence, address or anything else, gave him 10 out of 10.

As some have said, there are good dealers out there.
I don't buy cars anywhere near the value of many on here (996 Turbo), but the MD of the Specialist I deal with treats me great. Their selling Porsche 918's, Carrera GT's and highly collectable stuff.
If I walk into the showroom and the MD see's me, becuase there is this "relationship", he's striaght over. A shake of the hand a bit of craic and a sit down. If his phone rings he'll pick it up and just say "I'll call you back". Attention straight back to me.
Yet if I walk into my local BMW dealer, I can be blanked for 30 mins before some greasy haired salesman might honour with with his presense.

Your specialist workd for himself, wants to build a base of repeat customers, and knows that this is often done by word of mouth.I don't buy cars anywhere near the value of many on here (996 Turbo), but the MD of the Specialist I deal with treats me great. Your BMW salesman will be off to Audi or Skoda or Ford in a month or 2, so doesn't care.

Thought I would add this little nugget from a custom builders 4x4 website in the USA where their vehicles sell for between $130K - $275K. This for me makes the arrogance mentioned by dealers in this thread seem like they are polite to the point of fawning over you by comparison - It really is a gem under the "you couldn't make it up" category:
"If your inquiry is regarding pricing only, please read the "KNOW" section of our site first, as these vehicles are hand restored, built and customized and therefore the costing is not for everyone. Should you find that you want something no one else has and you can afford it please call us. We do not send out build list to email inquiries without a deposit. We do not provide information on where to buy parts we use. Thank you."
Also in their "know " section:
If you want the real thing, it costs money. If you are okay with a copy cat so that others think you have a ***** you probably are not the right customer for us anyway. Its a heck of a lot of money to spend for disappointment. There is a premium for the real deal.
How can anyone fail to be charmed with such a website is beyond me..Hell I`m signing up for one right now (better check the piggy bank first though).

As much as I see the dealers point, letting someone drive their car without seeing a driving license is against the lawRover dealer, as I sat in the car, dealer says "It suits you sir", gave him 1 out of 10.
