If you're lucky enough to own a flash car, do you always turn up in it for a NEW business meeting? OR - Would you take something a bit more discreet?

Discreet, you never know what that first impression might give.

Well I suspect that having a 355 outside my premises might give the impression i make too much money..

Since I don't have a 355, this is'nt a problem!

Soon though... soon

Diesel Focus.

I keep the cars a bit schtum. I tend my to even confess if a client is a car nut. It still could give the wrong opinion.

Now that I remember, the better half didn't know about my "weekend" cars until we'd been seeing each other for a month or so...

I have this debate with one of my partners - his view is that if you turn up in an old banger then clients think you aren't very good at your job.

There is a limit though and I think even he would think twice about pitching up in some of the machines driven by some of the contributors to this forum.

My dark grey Masser doesn't seem to get very much unwanted attention.

A nice smart BMW or Merc conveys the right image i feel. People just assume its a company car!

Audi S8 would be a good meeting car I feel.

Mini Cooper,

Only old mini owners hate the new MINI cars. It's just sutch a non-poser, likeable car.

If the accountant turned up in a 355 i'd show him the door.

The sad state of affairs regarding jealousy in this country it seems. I do wonder why clients don't think "hmmmm....old crappy diesel, can't be that successfull, why do I want him to do business for me" or "Ooooo, Ferrari....he must be doing a good job to afford one of those, I must get him to do business for me too" instead of "Ferrari??....Flash git obviously earns too much".

Hence I also run a crappy Vectra for the same reasons.

C'est la vie

Yep, in this country success is frowned upon by the jealous masses and sadly that means whether you drive an M Reg Golf or a Murci you will still get frowned upon. But sadly as said before, c'est la vie!

But if that accountant was reknowned for being the best accountant around and was guaranteed to save you more money... but he was a Ferrari nut and wanted to drive his 355 as much as possible... would you still show him the door?

But then i'm not shallow and jealous like most Brits these days... i'd be happy that someone was enjoying the fruits of his or her labour.

Shame its like this really

I agree This country is a mountain of jealousy and we do not like people doing well for themselves.
If my accountant turned up in a Mark 3 1.1L escort or a enzo ( he drives a mew SLK Merc )as long as he does a good job and the price is competetive I would not have a problem.

I bought the Maseraeti 3200 with this in mind. I thought as an overall compromise it was perfect. It wasnt in your face, but showed that our company must be doing something right. I would always say that the bank owned it really , even though I paid cash for it, so my customers could always say "well anyone can borrow the money" I now have a BMW 740i sport, which whilst I miss the Maser more than I thought I would, it is a nice cruiser with plenty of grunt.

'fraid to say it but most people don't think 'well done, fair play to him/her' when they see someone in a flash motor. It's a lot easier to assume that their daddy gave them the keys on Xmas day rather than they took a risk, worked bloody hard and chose to reward themselves with a silly car.

If my accountant turned up in a 355, he'd have to be an excellent 'chef' with the books and I'd be grateful I had an accountant with the confidence to turn up in a Fezza. I'd take a great accountant at £150 an hour over an average one at £25 (who'd probably turn up in a Rover 214d).

no way! at least not in nottingham or newcastle! they're mostly driven by people who try just a little too hard to look cool around those cities

why chap? my assumption would be that as he's successful he must be good at his job!

and why assume it's due to his income level? he may have a private income

Man you lot are easy to bite

Good on any one who own's a car now a days. More so if it's at the top of the league.

Sadly in this country succsess is frowned upon.
Now if your successfull and then fall flat on your face then "at least you tried"

You earn'd the money you can spend it one whatever your vice is. Mine is cars and i would like a lambo.

There's no way in hell i would turn up to a clients in the Masser, let alone a lambo. It does make a difference more than once.

The MINI in yorkshire is a driving fun car. Can't offend a client in a MINI.

Must admit, when we had a customer here recently, the comment was "So that's why you're expensive" (which we're not BTW) after seeing my car parked at the front of the building.

When I asked her what her boss drives, she admitted it was a lot more expensive than mine (since he also owns Partners The Stationers and Millwall FC). She didn't say what it was, though.

I don't smoke and don't drink in pubs much so my car is where I spend most of my money but people don't see that side of things.

mini or MINI i see the appeal of both, just need to get to work on a morning in air-conditioned comfort

mini, it's just a total go-kart
MINI, fat go-kart, nearly as much fun
