I'm looking to buy a 355. I have a lot o f experience with berlinettas and spiders but I've never bought one. Can anyone offer me buying advice? Haven't considered a GTS - any views?

Try the archive, it's been covered a few times.

I had a GTS - i'd say avoid. Mine squeeked, rattled and leaked. Much prefer the lines of the Berlinetta, but with summer coming up.... Get the spider.

GTS best looking of 355 with top off and with top on, best of both worlds, grand tourer spider, mine dont leak or rattle, bit of a performance getting roof behind seats , i have carbon race seats maybe easier with standard seat ? last gts ferrari made go for it.

If it weren't for the oh so visible seals behind the screen rail and before the rear window roll bar, I'd agree.

And the t-bar thing inside the roof.

If it's colour coded/non-vinyl like.

GTS gets my vote.... Almost bought one, but then the house came along, and the family stuff is kinda taking over.

also looked at the F355 F1, but didnt like the gearbox (no clutch, paddleshift). I was at LM 2 years ago, and watched one try and do a 300 point turn in the road due to a road closure. The rest of the cars simply spun the rear wheels and turned on the spot. The F355 took ages ... Fiddly gears and crap turning circle.

also, slightly more storage space in the GTS .. only slightly !

While these matter, I just don't think they outweigh the GTS benefits. [I am tempted to get it colour coded though]

A bigger issue is trying to put the roof back single handed in the rain!

jvaughan.....I almost won the lottery on Wed's and almost bought a Mig last week. Does that help? didn't think so.

jy....summer's coming, get a manual spider and make sure it's got a good warranty. Oh, and a Tubi or Capristo!!
Verdi's are good place to look.

Thanks everyone. Have decided to go for 355 manual spider. Can't decide if I should fit Tubi or Capristo though? Views on that would be appreciated. Also, if I put 20k miles on a 40k car, am I commiting financial suicide?

Anyone know where theres a reasonably long clip of a 355 with a capristo - IIRC I downloaded a video that you made "stuh" but it wasnt really long enough for me to judge it properly....

any chance of a hoon with the camera running a little more?? infact - any chance of a hoon, I'll do my best to keep up...

I had a GTS.

Best of both worlds I reckon:

Had the roofline of the Berlinetta and the open top of the Spider. With the colourcoded roof, it was beautiful...

No leaks either.

I have a decent clip, got it of a F-Chat thread... just searched but can't find the original thread to link to.

Is taken from outside the car, which is owned by GrahamS on F-Chat.

Is about 12mb - if someone want to host it I can send it via email.

Why not come along on the Northants run? You can passenger in the spider and get the full-on roof down effect

That clip was a bit pants as the compressed .AVI kills the sound quality.

Go for either - but make sure you go De-catted !

A 40K mile car will be already one of the cheaper cars available, so adding another 20K miles will be OK. It means you will be selling at by far the 'cheapest' price when the time comes , and that attracts attention and lots of buyers.

Buy it and drive it properly, thats what I reckon.

Sounds the best on 355 , where the tubi decatted on 348 sounds the best for that model..
