Definition of a supercar

A while back my friends and I got into the discussion of "what is a supercar". There are the easy ones ... any car from Lambo, Pagani and Ferrari etc.
I do not agree that any Ferrari is a supercar. The more common ones are everyday sports cars like Porsches and Astons. Anyway there's a simple answer to this and there really is only one Supercar... I know because I belonged to the Supercar fan club! Craigwww said:
Girls love the R8, know more about them and desire them, in most cases more than a Ferrari. I didn't say an R8 gets more attention than a Ferrari. I said it attracts more girls. The sad fact is most girls don't care that you drive a Ferrari and in general most of the younger generation find older men driving Ferrari's a turn off. A younger guy in an R8 is far more attractive to the opposite sex.
So wealthy young men are more attractive than wealthy older men? Who'd have thought it I'd bet my left ball if you used the same guy in the Ferrari (or Lambo) to try and pick up chicks (or even get attention from them) then done the same in the Audi... the real supercar would be the clear winner. Its apples and oranges you saying young audi r8 guy is attractive, fat 50's bloke in Ferrari isn't.

When the looks go south and the performance is worse than a BMW or Merc that you can get on PCP for £300 a month I'd be inclined to say its not a supercar any more.

Whats special about a 355? I realise some won't agree but to me it looks dated, its not particularly fast, doesn't handle particularly well, isn't particularly rare/valuable, and doesn't do anything particularly well.
Don't feed the troll!I'm in my mid 30's. I've zero interest in the 355. Its not something I grew up with as a poster on my wall and aspired to own one, so why would I care about it now? Its slow, old, ugly and handles poorly. All in comparison to similar price bracket cars of course. I'm struggling to find a reason to buy one, other than wanting a somewhat modern Ferrari but can't afford a "real" supercar one.

General public DO regard the R8 as a supercar.. this was the point I was making. PH wouldn't.
Girls love the R8...
I have owned Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo and McLaren, my OH thinks they are all nice enough. Girls love the R8...
Show her an R8 and both her and her sister go into instant "Oh my god it's an R8!" mode.
There is truth in Craig's words!

First time I've ever heard the F355 described as ugly. And whilst it's not fast in the modern sense of the word compared to a 458, or ridiculously powered super-saloon, it's not exactly slow either - it's not often you can fully use 380bhp on the public road. More than enough power, and also means you need to rev it out to get the power and hear that fantastic sound.I'm in my mid 30's. I've zero interest in the 355. I'm also in my mid 30s, which means I was an impressionable teenager around the time of the 456/F355/550 coming out, and they will always be poster cars to me - the 550 for me personally

If your Supercar budget is towards the bottom of the market you'll only get an older example (355, 360, 430, Gallardo etc) which inherently will look dated and lack the performance, build quality and toys of a similar priced new 400+bhp offering from BMW, Merc, Audi etc. This doesn't stop them being Supercars and actually, in part is what what still makes them Supercars Algarve said:

LOL This newbie Algarve dude seems to be stirring things up somewhat. Just because you have no interest doesn't make you correct! Allow me to clarify....I'm in my mid 30's. F355 - Definitely a supercar, of it's time in the same way a Miura / 348 / 250 ... / insert here.

F355 Ugly?? Really?? To each their own, but give me a naturally aspirated 3 pedal car any day of the week with lines like my car. There are things that are simply timeless and this is one of those.....If you really seriously look and research the history behind this car you'll be amazed.......A watershed moment car for me. It had so many firsts and so many lasts......Nothing will ever come close for having the complete package..........21plus years young design, a soundtrack that can never be replicated and looks to make me go weak at the knees. I think at the end of the day its how this car makes you feel..............Engaged, happy and exciting comes to mind. Nothing comes close to the feeling of when you dip the clutch, drop a cog or two and blast through a tunnel or when you get a series of corners and bends right, knowing it was you and not a computer flattering you............Hero cars these 355's....Some people understand charisma and some people well.............don't.
I can honestly say I think the 355 is possibly the prettiest car ever made in my eyes and it's my biggest regret not buying one 6/7 years ago when they were ridiculously cheap.
It's the kind of car that I would quite happily never drive and just leave it in the garage under the lights and just sit and stare at it. Like a piece of art work.

But you would need the epic soundtrack playing in the background for the full effect It's the kind of car that I would quite happily never drive and just leave it in the garage under the lights and just sit and stare at it. Like a piece of art work.
