HR and Payroll software. We got in early on the on the move to web based tech and went from unheard of to market leader in the 100-10,000 employee market. Started in 2005, sold in 2014.

One of the big finance software companies backed by venture capitalists bought us out.
Respect to you for that see in my industry it’s not easy! I was looking to startup on my own but my dad threatened to sack me and with a mortgage and 2 kids I couldn’t risk it!
I funded the business by remortgaging my home mate. My kids would have been err, 9 and 6 at the time. Wife was a Nurse Practitioner back then.

I was hacked off with working for other people. I was contemplating moving to Canada. I had had enough. It was very much an "ahh fk it, lets do it" moment. The alternative was middle management for people who didn't have a clue and didn't listen for another 30 years and I couldn't face it. I decided I would rather have a go and go bust than never try.

I say go for it or you'll never know.

There is "ghost83" asking a perfectly reasonable question and you giving a very brief explanation.
Next time flesh it out a bit more. wink
Lol, sorry. Cars run deep with me. Dunno what I would do if I wasn't into them.

Congratulations on your success. And a huge lesson to many supercar owner wannabees. As you say it’s personal choice and clearly for most people finance is the only path to ownership. Not for me but as long as they don’t end up begging the state for help in retirement because of those poor financial decisions it’s none of my business.

Nope. All the cars I have ever owned I have bought in cash, all were supercars except one. I waited until the mortgage was paid off too. I’m boring but I also retired before 45 too.

Brilliant explanation Leg.

As a car guy I totally get where you are coming from appreciating you have a genuine passion for the Ferrari marque & the deep rich history they have forged over the years.

I think my slight problem with the brand & the main reason I didn't even venture into the showroom to look at one comes from the nouveau riche poseur types who can't & aren't interested in driving the cars in anything approaching an enthusiastic manor, just using the car & ownership as a sort of Gucci handbag to accessories their lives.

Also & in-common with the odd Porsche I'd be interested in is the (nice problem for them) difficulty in obtaining a car in anything approaching a reasonable timescale or even at all in some case. Victims of their own success of course, built up over many years producing fine cars & limited ability to supply.

Hearing from people like yourself with a genuine passion to drive their cars I do expect to get over myself in the future & look at a Ferrari properly, hopefully one day you may consider taking a drive in a 570 too as its a real hoot to drive. (Maybe best for you to approach it from the shapely rear to try to get over the what was it, the grinning china man front on looks lol)

It is however good that humans aspire too & like different things in life, long may it continue.

P.s Very well done on the sale of the business, great to get out of the rat race whilst there is still some go left in you! (From a fellow pretty much retired 46 year old)

Don't believe everything you read or hear. I will be shortly on my 3rd McLaren having done over 15,000 miles and in 3 years not had a single issue.
Oh the battery in the remote ran out, shock horror yikes

Lots of scaremongering of the McLaren brand goes on where 1 isolated incident on the internet suddenly becomes an epidemic.
I'll second that.
Mine has been very reliable to be honest.
Sure the servicing costs are a bit 'aggressive' but for the money they have always kept my 12C in good worry-free condition.

People buy things to make them happy. How those things make them happy differs from person to person. It isn't specific to Ferrari either, plenty of other cars from other marques that are bought and never driven, including McLaren. A quick glance in the classifieds tells you that.

As you can see by my cars I like all sorts. I'm as likely to be stood enthusing to some lads about their modded Saxo, congratulating some bloke on his choice of Nissan Cube (haha, weird things) or giving a bloke in a Phantom the thumbs up as I am waving to a McLaren driver.

So long as you love cars, you're one of us as far as I'm concerned. That doesn't mean I want to own what you want to own, but it doesn't mean I think what I want to own is better, it's just better for me.

I've had some debates with Rambo where some might read it as me McLaren hating. If it's read properly though I'm saying that claims a car is better because it's "faster-more powerful-different tech-different construction" makes no sense to me. If that was the case most of us wouldn't kill for a Miura, 250GTO, Mk1 Mini Cooper S or whatever.

My Model A is an absolute f*cking nightmare to drive. The pedals are all the wrong way round, it has no synchro, the steering appears to be connected to the front axle via spaghetti and I'm never 100% sure I'll get where I'm going or back. It's in mint condition having been restored but by any measure you can write down, it's a death trap bag of ste that should never leave the garage.

It's the one car everyone always wants a ride in and is guaranteed to have everyone laughing. I have a stock of flat caps and you're not allowed in it, bloke, lass, child or dog, unless you wear one.

Cars eh, I have no idea how or why it all works but it really isn't about the numbers, whether its money or technical specifications.

PS. In a poor attempt to be PC I said "grinning oriental gentleman"...

Separated at birth...

Well yes I think its fabulous, looks modern & fresh to my eyes.

Especially love the rear head on & three quarters rear, reminds me of viewing a shapely ladies posterior all sexy swoops & curves.

Not wishing to denigrate the current offerings from Ferrari whilst chatting with the faithful! but to my eyes & I've just asked the wife for her view too in a 5 second sofa pole the 488 looks ordinary & dated by comparison.

Different strokes for different folks.

Much more important than the looks, she's been great fun to drive.

However getting back on the thread track very likely to cost me a bomb in depreciation & of course no one wins as none of us are getting out alive!

I think the mclarens are better looking in person and enjoyed the 12c I drove in papaya, the doors opening made that feel special!

When I was a kid I wanted a Ferrari then in my 20s I thought they were tacky and now in my thirties I love them!

Whilst I don’t have the money to pay cash at least I’m looking to work my ass off to get in one I’m a petrolhead I want to use and abuse one! Got to be honest I’d prefer a gallardo but we will see

Now if anyone looks down on me for looking at the finance route plz feel free to treat me to one for cash after all sharing is caring lol!

I like all the different cars for different reasons tbh just got to find a way in life to achieve my goal

Good for you, I was in my fifties before I could afford and justify a super car, that’s if you’d call a 360 Spider a supercar, I paid cash for it, but 54k is neither here nor there compared to some of the machines of today, I still have that same car, I admire those that can, have built and sold businesses etc and they have my respect, unfortunately most of us have to graft for many years, well me anyway! I can tell you this my 54k 360 means so much to me, I treasure it, good luck to you, I hope you get your dream. Mike
