Front number plates and the police
Discussion
It's all to do with vehicle design. Most vehicles are designed with a recess for a front number plate on the front bumper. Some vehicles don't have a front bumper (bikes, plant, tractors etc) or do have a bumper, but no recess for a plate. I still think this is a manufacturer issue, they must've had their vehicle type approved to sell it for use on British roads, so they must have made some provision for the display of a front plate, if required.
I agree that plates under the windscreen aren't ideal, if not for aesthetics then certainly as a safety issue, but they're surely preferable to attaching the plate obtrusively onto the front bumper.

Are plates in the windscreen even legal? As I understood it plates had to be attached to the vehicle, not in them. The windscreen would surely impair the legibility of the plate as well.
As said before, you're probably no worse off by not running with a front numberplate at all, rather than complying "in spirit" as opposed to strictly legally. You could wind up with a fine either way if you came across a sufficiently motivated cop.
Some manufacturers have numberplate holders that attach to bodywork, or - in the worst case and in the absence of specific direction - the dealers screw the numberplate into the bumper. Obviously that isn't really desirable.

There are so few traffic police about that you could probably drive about for ages before anyone said anything.
In all seriousness I'd keep your front plate in the car and say it was on the dash but it fell off when you gave it some stick or something.
On a recent Lambo convoy pretty much none of us had front plates, as we met up at service station an Aventador was followed in by a cop car and he was fined for the 3rd time this year for no front plate £100, then the cop slowly drove past all of us I thought he would just blanket fine us all, but just passed us all by, either he has to chatch you driving or he'd had his fill and was done!!In all seriousness I'd keep your front plate in the car and say it was on the dash but it fell off when you gave it some stick or something.

The current system is a joke, quite clearly £100 is nothing to someone driving an Aventador. They should really make the fine tied to your wage, or even the value of the car. Or make it maybe 1-3 pointsJust get a stick on one if you need to. Nobody is going to bother you for this even if its technically not legal.
