Just sayin’

I don't think anyone has said the R8 is "meh" have they? If they have they must be a bit simple or are just trolling

A mate mentioned he's thinking of one today and I commented that I'd seen a few people on forums say that the driving experience is a bit.... meh.

I can't see how driving anything with that kind of power could ever be considered "meh". Ah well.

Indeed, it's all subjective and down to the individual - some are blessed with millions to buy the most expensive of cars so an R8 could be considered "meh" next to a Veyron. The rest of us aren't so the R8 is a great stepping stone in to supercar ownership and definitely not "meh".

Obviously you need to consider the regular "cock waving" that goes on on here when conversations get a little heated smile

R8 is a bargain for what you get really BUT as said previously there is a reason it's a bargain. It's not because someone at Audi needs to be told that they could be selling it for the same price as the Gallardo....

There's better and there's better for me

the V10 R8 has the newer better engine, is faster, is cheaper to run and cheaper to buy. The interior is also better.

every rational measure says buy the Audi

yet every time I sit in the G I giggle that I own a Lambo. Or to put it another way, when I'm old a senile and dribbling into my cabbage, which would I regret not having owned?
This hits the nail on the head for me, for I imagine for a great many people.

It is not a criticism of the R8, it is simply saying that there is something ineffable about the Lambo that isn't there with the R8. There is for some people though, obviously, just as someone who is really into their GTRs would staunchly describe them as a supercar, or "supercar killers".

It's not brand snobbery either, I don't think, because the R8 isn't exactly cheap either. It is just something that is hard to explain.

I'm between supercars at the moment so I currently just blast around in a TTRS, and there are a lot of similarities between that and the R8 - again in my opinion. The switchgear is for the most part identical, for example, and the TTRS is not a million miles away in terms of performance.

I think the R8 is a lovely looking car and I would definitely be keen on one, but I can't imagine it would be something that I would take the cover off and immediately have butterflies in my stomach before I've even opened the door. Different strokes for different folks though.
Funny thing is, early Gallardos don't really do it for - they've been £70K for the last 10 years and even when I was shopping at that price point 3 years ago, I just haven't wanted to. My main gripe is that the interior is a real put off for me, too plain, especially when contrasted with the exterior. Comparable age Ferraris seem to have the balance a lot better. Likewise for the R8 V10.

If the choice was between say a manual 2011 R8 V10 and same year manual Gallardo, with the latter being £15K more, then I'd have a serious think about going Italian.

There's a big difference between a keen driver who has tried the car / someone with the capability of buying this or a better car, saying it is 'meh', ... and an internet expers who probably also thinks that the Boxster is the poor man's Porsche & other such Clarkson inspired guff

Well done on your new car.
Does anyone over 30 actually take notice of anything Clarkson spouts?

Isn't the 750LT coupe a good 3 years away and the LT spider if there will be one 4 years ?
I believe the 720S Spider is imminent. 7xxLT coupe is 12-18 months away, and 7xxLT Spider will be 24-30 months from now.

Next one to be shown will be the McLaren Speedtail though.
