Porsche and Lamborghini seem quite happy to show what their cars can do in the real World by taking on the Ring whereas some of the competition seem scared that they might reveal they are not as quick as suggested.

Any thoughts ?
Laps are rigged with plenty of non-standard "tweaks" . Correlation with showroom cars is somewhat opaque

Agree with the above, its all pub talk anyway, the driver makes most of the difference anyway, stick me in a Hurrican and an F1 driver in a Galliado and I bet his lap will be faster than mine by quite a margin, I have done plenty of track days and can drive a bit but there would be no comparison to a pro driver. I am going to get nowhere near their times.

When buying such a car its just far better to drive them all (on a track if that's where you're going to use it) and buy the one that you like most.

Ferrari have their own track and have no problem with sales, I got my 488 earlier this year and waited over 12 months for it. There is a massive demand for new cars.

+1

On trackdays you can often find yourself being passed by more experienced drivers in less powerful cars.

It does not matter. We are all here to learn and improve ourselves smile

Why would Ferrari bother going there? What would Ferrari gain in relation to sales? It's home soil for Porsche and Audi/Lamborghini who are always under the Ferrari brand.
lol. I just love comments like that. Always make me chuckle.

It is true though.

Although Ferrari are currently slow relative to the competition. Porsche are not really their competitors though, apart from 918.

...and Lamborghini are not a competitor to Ferrari? After all, Ferruccio Lamborghini didn’t start building cars specifically to compete with Enzo Ferrari did he? In terms of who builds the better cars, that will always be to some extent a subjective argument but to say Lamborghini is beneath Ferrari, is IMO incorrect. Both marques make very capable cars in the same sector.

I think you have a valid basic point, but the 'Ring is not 'the real world'. I understand it may technically be considered some sort of public toll road, but it's actually a very long race track in an area with dodgy weather conditions, surely?

they are beneath them in terms of desirability to most though and also beneath them in terms of having to prove the cars objective capability on a race track to create extra sales

Well, they seem to be doing a better job of proving themselves on a race track than Ferrari currently are....whistle

Le Mans ?

The F1 GTR was superb at Le Mans but that was last century.

All very true but the brand got devalued a bit imho when they sold it to the Volkswagen Group,I think even before this Ferrari had the edge on Lamborghini.
