I've got a 2010 R8 V10 and read a lot on owners forums (mainly in the USA) that the car benefits quite a lot from being mapped. Has anyone on here has theirs done is it worthwhile and can anyone recommend someone in the North West?

I had an APR map installed on my 2010 V10 and can truthfully say it was worth every penny. Mine was done by Ricky at RE Performance in Swindon and would thoroughly recommend him and the APR software.

Thanks I've heard of him but he's 3.5 hrs away I have a local APR dealer I might give them a call tomorrow. Can you let me know what you paid (pm if need be) and what difference it made?

I have an r8 gt v10 and always wondered what a new map would do to the car.

Anyone else had it done?

It cost £1k inc vat. It has made the car what it should have been from Audi. In other words, the map removes the restriction Audi puts in place via restricting the throttle opening. It makes a marked difference right through the rev range and not just at the top end like some maps. Torque is also increased but is not so noticable

I have experience of both the Audi R8 V8 and a Lamborghini V10 which is essentially the Audi engine.
In both cases I had sports exhausts fitted and remap at the same time.
The change was definitely in torque, particularly with the V8 in 3rd (manual) gear.
The V10 benefits all the way through albeit I never thought I would say more power in the V10 was necessary.
It's interesting because it's less about BHP and more the way that power gets transmitted in different circumstances.
The sports exhausts were just a special bonus biglaugh

Another thumbs up for the APR tune. I had a APR map on my V8 R8 which cost approx. £1k and it definitely produced a noticeable improvement in low down grunt and like mentioned you could feel more power in 3rd all the way to the redline.

APR is I assume just the kit they use to make the mapping changes?

It's booked in on Thursday at Awesome GTI in Manchester they have a rolling Rd so I will get a before and after print out. The general concensus is the V10 in the R8 is deliberately detuned and this map brings it up to its original state of tune/power. Apparently Audi didn't want to take sales from the Gallardo at the time. I even read its throttle by wire and you only get 80% of full throttle in the Audi! Seems there is definitely some truth in all this after researching on R8 talk.com plenty of before and after print outs and recommendations. Here is a link to APR UK... I will give you my thoughts on Friday proof will be in the eating eh...

It's a software rewrite for the ECU.

You are spot on with the 20% reduction in throttle opening but this is only part of the APR map. They have also adjusted the AFR and a couple of other things that they keep to themselves.

I will be very interested to see your before and after figues and your thoughts of course.

I will post on Thursday night my results... Should be interesting being same day results on the same rolling rd as it won't matter if its optimist or pessimistic it will show a before and after map BHP readout.

There used to be a video on m5board on YouTube of identical cars at a runway doing a few runs , one with a map and one standard, the mapped one was quicker but not by much. I did have a quick look but couldn’t find it

Honestly noticable & worth it on v8? Ricky told me 10bhp. I am considering but seems only a minor slight gain

So here's the printout was 487 BHP now 542... the guy thinks the valves could do with a carbon clean says another 20bhp most probably. But no matter if the read outs are low the difference on the Rd is night and day it feels a lot quicker especially top end of rev range. Under £1k am more than happy it really has made a difference. These are clutch readouts so I presume flywheel so lowish outputs but every rd is different at least mine is same day same rd results, but the increase is considerable and I am a happy chappy with the seat of the pants experience !

I would say you are closer to 30 bhp down given the stock engine is 520 at the flywheel. Pleased you are impressed with the results though as it's certainly worth doing imo.
