I lived down there till recently. What you have to remember is that round the corner is Sandbanks which is the second most expensive area for real estate in the world. Lots and lots of multi millionaires down there. I was there for 3 years and I do not believe there was one car I did not see. Lambos of every sort, McLaren SLR, Carerra GT, Ferraris of every sort, Bentleys, Astons etc etc etc.
There is a specialist dealer in Bournemouth - SJC Bramshaw http://bramshaw.net that deal in all exotica!!!

I went down there for a couple of days to see James Ketchell (see recent thread 'whats the italian for heaven?') and saw about a dozen 360s and a Murcielago. He's often about in his Gallardo too.
We had lunch in Sandbanks and it was just a car spotters dream. In about 30mins we saw a mint DB5, a bling Range Rover, DB9, bunch of Porsches etc etc.

Some parts of Bournemouth/Poole are really chi-chi. Still a bit of a small town mentality down there, but there's a ton of money floating about. I have a friend with a Murci down there, may have been him. It used to be a fun party town, but now many of the nightspots are very pretentious, charging London rates for provincial quality. The Bournemouth-clone blondes are always out in force.

I was told it was THE most expensive... whats higher? Tokyo?
Not intentionally being pedantic but it is in fact the 4th most expensive in the world, on an average area based price evaluation. More expensive are Tokyo, Hong Kong and Central London.
Must admit, very impressed with Sandbanks from the trip there a couple weekends ago....Wouldn't mind a little summer place there and the crumpet available in Bournemouth weren't too bad
Had lunch in the Haven, definitely staying there a few times this summer
Anyone been to Jamie Redknapp's restaurant which is supposed be near there????

Just sold our place there living near oxford now
Do you mean Harry Redknapps (father / owner of Football club) restaurant?
There is one of his places in Ferndown 'Chiantti' -Italian, very very good food and on the way through to Sandbanks from A31
If you do go to Sandbanks and want a quieter beach, nip over on the ferry and immediately on your right is a tiny little beach that only the locals know of and the water is sooooo warm in the summer, many a lovely evening spent there.....

The girlfriend lives down in Bournemouth so I'll have to check out Sandbanks by the sound of it! Might be a bit outclassed in the TVR though. And her folks live in Ferndown, so the italian restaurant will be added to the itinerary - cheers!
On the land prices, I think it depends whether you're talking commercial or residential... I did read just yesterday on Bloomberg that Mayfair has the most expensive office space in the world. Also the most expensive house ever sold in the world is apparently one in Kensington, bought last year by the Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal for £70m. Don't know how many square ft it is though. And a Turkish dude just put his house up for sale in Hampstead for £50m.

Sorry to but in hear guys, I am a born and bread local in Bournemouth boy, and i live just on the edge of the sandbanks/canford cliffs branksome Park area. Property prices have shot up at an alarming rate over the last 5-10 years, for example my old flatmate paid 60K for his flat in the early 90's and would now sell for about350-400K. Sandbanks is still the most exclusive area and a 3 bed townhouse is 700k add some sea veiws and its over a million! The knock on affect of this, is that developers are now moving into the areas between sandbanks and bournemouth and building executive properties anywhere within walking distance of the sea and charging a huge premium for it.
Due to the type of person who has tha cash to purchace these properties the local motoring population consist of alot of auto exotica. I see bentleys, porshe ferrari, lambo, etc on a daily basis as i pass through this area on my way to work.
If you are passing thuogh best places to go are Canford cliffs, Haven and sandbanks hotel, Branksome beach, Vesuvio at alum Chine or just cruise around and enjoy out lovely corner of the world!!
Safe driving

I thought the most expensive sold was one in the countryside north of London somewhere, a huge mansion for £80-85 million IIRC. Not sure if it actually sold for that price though or if that was the most expensive ever offered for sale??
Didn't Sir Bernie sell his place in Kensington for £175m to the Indian steel plant owning family?

Lakshmi Mittal bought Bernie Ecclestones place for about 70 million, it's 18-19 Kensington Palace Gardens
Thats right, Bernie never moved into the house cos his wife didnt like it.
Saw Branson's Necker Island on MTV Cribs last night, what a place, seriously amazing. He said he started Virgin records at 18 and bought the island at 24, but didnt have enough money to do anything with it. He has slowely added to it as the money rolled in.
