With all the talk of cars being supercars or not, if you are disappointed when no-one thinks your car is a supercar then you've bought it for entirely the wrong reasons.
A lot of presumption in that statement. Arguing a point doesn’t mean that was the reason played any part in a decision that was madejakesmith said:

It's not as though a car being called 'not a supercar' means it is automatically st does it?

No presumption at all; does it matter to you, me or av185 what other people think of our cars? The term supercar neither enriches or takes away from the experience of owning it.

I can discuss something without being disappointed if the consensus doesn’t validate my choice as I didn’t make my choice on that basis. I can’t speak for others but imagine similar The fact that a lot of participants and defenders of certain models have that model in their 'my garage' is telling. Can you back up your ‘a lot of participants’ bit. Apart from myself and the perennially cheerful Mr AV does anyone else even have a dog in the fight? It’s a discussion forum isn’t it.
ETA Unless you’re referring to the person who went to look at one but didn’t buy it as the Audi salesperson told them it wasn’t a supercar. What a master of sales he was. Coming to The Apprentice soon.

Actually it was my wife who was looking at buying one, not me. And she only asked the R8 specialist (who is also a sales guy) whether it was a supercar as I'd been chatting about it on the way up. She didn't actually give a damm what the answer was, she just wanted a nice car that was quick and looked good.We get you bought an old R8 on a shoestring, privately to save a few extra £. And maintain it yourself. Excellent, this is great, true sign of a PH. Great bang-for-buck, great car. But this is really getting boring now ......................... how about just drive and enjoy

Just read that back, quite a rude/blunt post for me. I'm slowly morphing into RL
Maybe get your wife to give you a nice relaxing massage and calm down a bit Mr Angry Wasp. She should be compliant as you bought her a lovely sports carBtw not sure where you get that I work on my car myself, that’s a fantasy, maybe like the 2 men at Hull Audi who subtly smiled at you? Sounds a bit ‘are you being served’ to me. Do you dress exuberantly perchance?

The GT1 was developed as a race car. Porsche made 20 road versions (each of which are pretty bespoke) to meet homogenisation racing rules.
Is that before or after the Pasteurisation rules are applied? Homologation is the word you are looking for. av185 said:

The R8 is on a shared platform with a Lamborghini it’s far more special IMO. Park the 2 next to each other and do a straw poll of random passers by on which one is the supercar I bet you the R8 wins by some margin
Given that my lowly 991.2 GT3 (white, winged clubsport)) receives more attention than my 458 Italia (Grigio Titanium) it seems fairly clear that a GT2 RS would receive waay more attention than an R8.Not that attention is a good thing, as we all know.

Don't actually rate the car so it is for sale although have someone on for it atm.
