I'm sure you would have had a much better time if your car could get to 100MPH one twentieth of a second faster! Or was part of McLaren's 'Super' series which entails a carbon fibre keyring and slightly thinner headlining material.

Aventador does sound good though. Even though like the Huracan it has some fake sound. Which beggars belief considering it's fantastic n.a. engine.
Can you elaborate?

Back to the original question asked...

The McLaren F1 was and still is right up there as a supercar by anyones definition.

The 570 figures from 0-60, 0-100, 0-124 are very, very close to the F1, it has the show off doors ( which actually are very practical ) looks like a spaceship and it does over 200mph.

What other box does it have to tick? scratchchin
Two key differences:
The analogue F1 does not suffer depreciation.
The average granny cannot drive an F1

So a 720 isn’t a Supercar either by your definition then as they are dropping like stones. A contender for the fastest road car available. Ok.

Both are Supercars.
Just as a burger and prime rib-eye steak are both food.

An R8 (including the V8) is a Supercar.

All McLarens are supercars except those for pushing children around in. That's spelled different though isn't it?

That was easy smokin. However it really does not matter about a label wobble

Went looking at cars with my eldest (6yr old) we’ve looked at Mclarens, Ferrari’s and Audi R8 and he sees them all as supercars

I suppose it depends on your attitude and ego though

On Instagram last week someone posted a pic of an R8 and I made the comment that he should post it on here to debate whether it was a supercar or not and someone else piped up and said if the R8 isn’t a supercar then neither is a 458 and apparently that’s debated quite a lot on another forum

I dont get alot of the things about 'supercars'.

For example:
I dont know why anyone would buy an Aventador over a Performante, when the latter is obviously a much better car.

Is it because the Aventador is more outrageous?

McLarens, R8s aren't designed to be outrageous, therefore they aren't supercars?

A lot depends on the definition of 'better'. Extrapolating from the current electronic driver aids, in the same way as you press a button and the gbox goes up or down a cog, one day you might be able to press a button and the car will do a lap of the Nordschleife, all by itself, in under 6 mins. Better? For some, yes.....

Obviously it just depends how you define better.

Yes, most certainly the 570s is a supercar. Entry level though. Then you've got the new McLaren GT which is an even lower entry level, and I don't think that is a supercar smile

If you consider the 911turbo/turbo s a supercar then the Mac is. If it is not then neither is the Mac. I personally would rather have the Porsche

I personally don't consider either a supercar (and I've owned a 911 turbo) but my opinion counts for Jack at the end of the day. Would still take the Porsche though.

Maybe why McLaren categorise the 570s as a sports series, rather than super series. The 911 and 570 are both super cars, but supercars, hmmm....

Is this thread still running? biggrin

A supercar has to meet ALL of a bunch of criteria. One of those criteria is exclusivity. Another is whether it would be a teenager's bedroom poster pic (as Testarossa and Countach were for me).

A number of the claimed supercars above miss these 2 tests.

Any McLaren passes ALL the tests easily. (Including the new GT.)

On another note my wife also says an R8 is a supercar as she says how can that and the Lambo be all but identical apart from body and one be classed as supercar and other as not,

She also says with how an R8 looks it has the supercar profile!
