i wonder if its something to do with the non-leather bits (are they plastic?) and direct sunlight, though its probably not as much of a concern in the UK

it seems a bit odd to have a hole, surely it should have a camera or some kind of blanking plug... a hole doesn't sound very German!

Yeas they are plastic so maybe for those places that get hot weather (UK not included, lol)

Maybe the plug came out but its not even central...lucky you cant see it.

Just a quick question to those that replied they had a V10 R8 but only kept if for 2 or 3 years..... what was your reason for getting rid if you don't mind me asking?

No particular reason other than a V12 Vantage was on my list of cars that I had to own at some point so traded my R8 in for one last year ...hard to say which sounds better to be honest the V10 was a real howler whilst the V12 is more baritone and layered especially at slower speeds ...both great cars tho the Aston a little more special overall imo.

I got my V10 not too long ago and enjoying it just as much as I hoped I would after previously owning a McLaren 12C. Moving back to a manual gearbox has been great.

I had noticed quite a few R8s on the market and wondered if there was a fundamental ownership problem that is encountered after a certain amount of time - possibly the lack of luggage space or the lack of brand hierarchy for example, or maybe people were just renting them short term? - but with me at least all is good for now. Car was bought outright so its mine to do with what I please

I wonder if it's because of where they sit on the car spectrum?

Realistically they're above sports cars and although reliable, come with supercar running costs when things go wrong so maybe a step too far for that audience?

Looking the other way, they're not as exotic as Lambo's, Ferrari's and McLaren's so won't appeal to supercar/hypercar owners either.

Or Brexit? Or people don't know what they're missing?

Very subjective and proven quite controversial subject on where to place an Audi R8 on the 'supercar ladder'.

I'm glad to say this doesn't bother me the slightest having come from owning a number of supercars over the years.
My previous was a 12C, before that I had my Gallardo and before that I had my F430 - no arguments on where they sit on the ladder.
The V10 R8 manual is giving me just as much if not more pleasure at the moment than my old 12C.

Its obviously not as raw or as involving as the F430 but at the same time the R8 V10 delivers a refined confidence in the driver experience.
Its not as fast as my 12C but then going back to a manual in the R8 has been a refreshment.

For me its definitely a supercar, coming from a history of the above mentioned predecessors. But for others they seem to not be able to jump past the badge. However because of that it does mean potential R8 owners get a good amount of value for money when they purchase.

Funnily enough a McLaren 570S is next on my wish list, they've come down quite a bit in price since last yr! One thing I really liked about my old V10 were the bespoke dials it had which were diff to any other Audi...the new one has the virtual cockpit which while very nice tech is the same as you get in standard models. And the stainless steel gearshifter (whether manual or S tronic) was very nice indeed...great cars and such good value for money.

Had a good look at a 570S this week, I’m sure it’s a blistering drive and the brand is strong but it really doesn’t look right from behind to me, the one I saw had a ton of CF too. I’d go used 720S every time if I were in that league it’s a much nicer looking car.

I'm not a fan of the rear lights on the 570s - it was one of the (minor) reasons I went for a 650 instead (although I know most people don't like the rear lights in the 12 / 650). I think the 720 has essentially the same rear lights as the 570 - but with the spoiler, exhausts etc. it just works.

Interesting that. I sold a 430 for the r8 v10 before then swapped the r8 for a 12c some years ago. Although I kept the 12c much longer than either of the prior 2, i look back every bit as fondly at the r8 as the 12c and thought the r8 was a vastly better car to actually drive than the 430. The big bugbear I had with the R8 though is that it always felt heavy and in particular the brake pedal were very very over servo'd imo but overall the r8 was always a pleasure to drive and that v10 is an stonkingly good engine.

I’m looking for a Gen 1 V10 Spyder with S Tronic. I’m not really keen on white so my choice of cars seems very limited.

Ideal spec is black/black (or grey) with usual options and parking camera. Y spokes preferred but not so important. Full history, ideally Audi, is a must as I will likely put the Audi warranty on it.

I bought a 2010 manual Gen 1 V10 last weekend after a little while of browsing. Took it for it's first 'proper' drive yesterday, very impressed. The noise is heavenly!
