From survey:

Car very quick - in a straight line; but easily upset by bumps at high speed (160+) and it gets scary.

Brakes ineffective, at best, and downright scary in the wet. At Spa, I was seeing Jesus so often at the end of the straight that I started to use him as a braking marker.

See you've got a good selection of cars there joust. How's the Noble? Something I've been interested in for a bit, but the 355 has to some first!

Noble is amazing. It just won't understeer anywhere, and I've yet to even get close to the limit - it's all so controllable.

Couple that with (for me) the most exquisit noise coming from the twin turbos and their associated waste gates and I'm totally in love and smitten.

As for a A->B car - I'd be surprised if there is much that can keep up with it - a gaggle of superbikes on the way back from the A24-264 eventually gave up and got out of the way after they just couldn't loose me - there is something very satisfying about taking the inside line round a superbike on a large 3 lane roundabout

Interesting car survey articles - it seems most of these cars have been pretty reliable.

You can see my car at:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=2&f=25&t=12197&h=0

(you may have seen me at Le Mans)

I admit that build quality is not up to standard for a £150k car (apart from on the Audi'fied 6.0 versions) but it is not as bad as people make out. I do about 3000 miles a year and have not had major expenses as yet (I had more problems with my F355 by the way and this was bought from a main dealer with warranty!).

I will try and make the V Water meet if I can (is the entrance wide enough?!)

Craig; we hear a lot about the agricultural nautre of Lambos (particularly the Countach's recalcitrant gear change).

As a worshipper at the alter of the Seventh Church of The Apocalyptic Countach, I'd be gratified for your insights as to this car's viability as an ownership experience in UK2002. And in terms of driveability and sheer balls, how it stacks up next to the Diablo.

Oh yes - and how they sound too.

Thanks.

I read an article today of a Diablo owner who loved the car to bits but...

Wheel bearings £800
New Front Bumper £9500

..he also said that the F355 was quicker on the track and his previous NSX was quicker on the road for everyday use!

But then you don't buy a Diablo for being practicle right? :-) I'd like one, but the article I read has put me right off!

..Gorgeous looking & sounding car!!!!!!

Ah, that will be my mate Mathias

I wasn't at Brooklands - I have been a few times but never really rated it as an event

Derestrictor - the Countach was a great car to have owned: very reliable, very loud and a great head-turner. The gearbox is a bit of a pig but you get used to it. Running costs were reasonable over 4 years - the only problem I had was the ignition pack needed replacing (common problem) at £1000 a time.

Diablo is a lot quicker, has a better gearchange and better visibility but feels much bigger on the road. Surprisingly my brother (6' 4") actually found more room in the Countach. The bodywork is also not as delicate as the Countach (you had to watch out for idiots leaning on them at car meetings).

Without going on about this......

98 SV - awesomely quick - and much faster around a circuit than any F355 that I've played with - my 6.0 2 WD is the mutts!

Just come back from a tidy up (off to Italy in it on the 22nd Oct) and the Lamborghini mechaninc was blown away - it's the only 2WD in Europe - and it handles much better than any VT he had driven.

Lee Cunningham (won the Lambo GTR supertrophy last year) reckons it was the best - now he can drive!

Re: the brakes - the 98SV were awesome - much better than the 550M - and the 6.0 are killers!

Regulary see X00 mph - doesn't seem very scary to me!

May see you at VW on the 20th then.....

Without wishing to get into a playground style "yes it can, not it cant" argument, I've seen the result of trackday wear on Mathias's SV. The front discs crack from the drill holes. I'm sure that the later 6litres and Audi built cars are better built -- this wouldnt be hard cos Mathias's car has a build quality that makes a Lada look superb. And as for the UK dealer...
