I don't know if anyone would agree, but it seems to me that unless you've always followed one path AND become VERY good at it, the best way to those extra pennies we all love is to diversify......

Diversification can equal divided heart and mind, not easy to pull off unless you've got strong partners/managers. Appears to be double/treble the good things but can just as easily (and more often) be double/treble the grief. I've done focused and diversified (the latter felt like the path to an early grave). Now struck a balance with three ventures to exit in sequence. The last of the three is the 'main event'. Self-discipline, self-motivation and ruthless time management are essential to back more than one horse at a time, although I do find it hard to resist the odd dabble.

Answer to thread question, fking hard work! There's no such thing as a self-playing piano.

Yup, that's how I kept my design- and music-business and a bit of a social / family life in balance from '86-'01. Has nothing to do with cars though . . . Without working hard I would die BTW. It's something I need, thank gawd I can do with just a 5-6 hrs of sleep. Could that be the reason I think most people are so fecking slow and boring. Kids slowed me pace down in an awesome way folks . . . just tucked 'em in and couldn't live without those two ladies. Still nuff work to do! Most done for passion / charity btw.

HOW DO YOU AFFORD YOUR CARS? Golf is paid for and the Civic is gawddown cheap . . . A Lambo or TVR would be to much of a burden. It's like a house in France: you have to go there every time? Not for me. With a bit more 'argent' I'd eat and drink more of the expensive bits - like I did living in Amsterdam.

In the Army was pi##ed off being skint all the time as i was constantly on the beer. I left the Army & became a van driver, still broke & very frustrated. I've never really seen a skint financial adviser so i took a job that put me through FPC exams, studied, worked hard & my ambition through all this was to have an Esprit. 7 years down the line & i have a nice little collection, the Esprit S4, the smart roadster coupe & the Merc CLK compressor.

Its a selection of cars thats good for any occasion, they all hold their value fairly well & not to bad to look after. To get dosh, property is obviously a good investment, my first prop i bought for 47k back in 1997, its now worth 130kish & has helped fund another 2 houses one of which i live in. When i bought the first it was a 100% mortgage & i even borrowed the survey money! To invest in property now however you have to be in it for the long term, at least 5 years as the values arnt really going to increase much in the for seeable future.

End of the day you have to enjoy what you do, work hard & it WILL pay you back. Someone told me once life is a game & your bank balance is the sore board, you got to get points every day or you never finish the game.
