In my experience (ie compared to people I know who own ferrari) the 348/355 is a better put together car than the TVR but no more reliable etc.... The 348 is not as fast as even my Chim 450. I would reasonably easily show a clean pair of heels.

With 50k i would stick with perhaps a newer Ferrari, If you can wait a year or so more you may be lucky and get a 360 on a X/Y plate for that money. Its my opinion however that the 355 is the best looking Ferrari, if you bought one for around 45k you would get alot of car for the money. I have had little experience with a 355, only on track days at Thruxton where i was allowed to absoultly thrash the hell out of it. I am considering buying one, but i am going to test drive a DB7 Vantage and Vanquish first.
I sold the tuscan to fund a 328 gts 9 months ago. clearly the 328's not quickest thing out there but in terms of the whole package (looks, sound, handling) imho it wins hands down...completely different engine note, but both great.
I did a lot of uk research - as many people've said, 30k'll get you a fairly decent one, 30-50k miles, 3-6 owners but as with 'pre-loved' cars, check the service history.
top whack i saw was one at verdis (42-45k i think) with 2k on the clock - looked perfect but never driven.
i went for one with 10k almost perfect bodywork for 35 which seemed reasonable. so far the only thing that's gone wrong - after 2k miles was the battery - it was 15years old. other than that, beautiful.
good luck with the hunt!
cheers

The car is a one owner 1989 328 GTS with 2400 miles on the clock.
As you might expect, it is unblemished inside and out and looks just like new on top and underneath.
The car is not likely to see the light of day for a while, as it is already up on the car lift awaiting the mother of all services.
I am expecting a whole host of problems caused by lack of use, but figure that it is easier to sort out caliper seals, master cylinders, dampers, bushes, belts, tensioners and the like than it would be to sort out a shagged interior, rotten sills or scabby bodywork.
Time will tell whether or not I've done the right thing, but previous experiences of recommissioning garage queens in the shape of an Esprit and a TVR Griffith were relatively painless and it is soooooo nice working on a car where nothing is seized up, cross threaded and rounded off nuts and bolts are conspicuously absent.
Pat - your car looks in stunning condition.
I hope that once you get the 'mother of all services' out the way you will put a few miles on the clock. Will you be going to the usual round of Ferrari gatherings? If so I will certainly keep an eye out for you & your car as I would love to see it.
