A friend mine reckons if you bought a Diablo this winter for 80K, in Q1 2009 it will be worth between 60-70k maybe a bit more depending on milage and condition. It will hold its value for a while. Don't forget this was a £150,000+ car when new, so like the Ferrari 550 which you can now pick up in the lower 50k mark for a 6+ year old, its suffered the worse of its depreciation and nows the perfect opportunity to get a fantastic car for a great price. Its the same reason that im getting a DB7 Vantage for around 50k.
Good luck on what you choose to buy, theres nothing quite like seeing a Lamborghini Diablo on the streets, even compared to the newer Lambo's and Ferrari's.

Simon - cheers for the words of encouragement
All: you've pushed me enough, just have to get the right deal now.
Approx £50k to spend, early VT or SV. mileage and age not a problem, but car has to be well maintained. otherwise, no real other preferences apart from a sports exhaust
Go lassie, go!

i could prove him wrong, i have not lost circa 20k in 4 years(in theory! according to people who should know) but i get your drift. i did just lose 15k in 18 months on bmw x5's. the guy could do worse than buying a diablo, though i would say an sv, se or 6ltr car, this would need more than 50k outlay.

I would be very hesitant in getting an older diablo, from what I've seen it's the harder to source cars, SV & 6 Ltrs that are really holding their money. If it is at all a possibility, i'd look at spending 60/70k on a good SV
Have you driven an early car, I drove a 94 VT and it was feeling it's age.
Hmmmm.
Well this one has been tickling my fancy :
LHD SV
But in the end I think I'm only really going to want a 6 litre for any extended period of time, and it's probbaly a better car for long distance european jaunts than the SV.
Thing is when you start to look at it like that, it makes a lot more sense to get a used 550M / Aston Vantage instead. Thing is they'll cos the same as the lambo, and probably about the same to run, they just don't set me quite so on fire as a Lambo. Still the 550 qoudl fit in my current garage, I doubt a 6 litre would so that could be the decision made.... :wibble:

If you're going for a diablo, and if funds allow, I would recommend a 98-00SV or a 6.0l. These car are pretty much bomb proof as long as they have been loved.
The earliest Diablos (with the belair cockpit) are a little more hard work. That said - if looked after, they're great value (as long as you can see over the dash!)
From MY98 onward they just rock. They just work.
Enjoy whatever you do decide to buy - you'll never regret buy one - you may regret not buying one if you had the opportunity.

Raks, good to have a chat, hope it was useful. As mentioned this is Mike Pullen's website:-

Edited to say : ...don't know how up to date his stock list is, as he is primarily into servicing / maintenance rather than sales, but worth a call anyway.

ooooh that's a cracker. a good friend had an early car a couple of years ago, hardly lost anything on that too. i went in it, felt quick, del hopkins used to say they were the fastest? no cats or restrictions.
i met up with mike pullen and some friends in sant agata a few years ago, one was running an early car said they raced vs in his murtha and kept with it all the way. mmmm interesting.

thanks for all the tips guys, food for thought
thanks for the chat earlier today Tony, me thinks it's worth giving all the dealers/people in the know a tinkle and see what they can drum up.
i also need to get out there and drive a few versions. after our chat, the SV does sound the more sensible... see what comes up... keep it all coming!
