during my first 3 years in London, I had 6 incidents of accidental or malicious damage to my porsche.

Its not only the repair cost to consider (excess or otherwise).... but also having to be without the car while its being repaired and the hastle of sorting it.

I know someone who had a yellow 355 spider and some homeless guy decided to spit on it with him in the car...needless to say he got a beating!

Personally i cannot understand the mentality of people who damage these cars, everytime I see a ferrari/lambo/bentley it justs make me smile and think "fair play"....each time I see one just makes me wanna work a bit harder to get my own later on.

On a different note I saw my perfect car after leaving work in Bristol city centre...bright yellow Murcielago with a p/plate just sayin "PHAT"...really made my friday night!

I used to leave my Diablo(s), 550, 355, Chimaera, Cerbs et al parked overnight in the street at Balham. My rationale was if had to worry about a car, then I shouldn't keep it/them. Never had any trouble (not true - once caught a drunk youth stnading on the roof of the Orange SV - no damage done).

That said - I now live in a house with room for 4/5 cars parked behind electric gates - and the cars are out of sight!

Advice for car parks... park over 2 spaces.

I would imagine that the sort of jealous low life that would scratch a car would not take kindly to this.

Whilst I know why you'd do this, to the British public it does smack of arrogance "I have an expensive car so I can park it where I like"

Not exactly a Ferrari or Lambo but my VX is pretty conspicuous and does get a lot of attention. Touch wood I've never had any problems and I do leave it pretty much wherever, sure, take precautions but if you are overly paranoid it spoils the enjoyment of the car.

My local town is Goole, which granted, is not the most upmarket place in the country and some people would argue that is is one of the worst places in the country.

I used to leave my bright yellow Ferrari Spider all over the place, even with the roof down, as it hardly ever had it up anyway. I simply took the face off the stereo and never had anything in it worth nicking.

Like others have said, only problem I ever had was loads of greasy finger prints along the doors.

The car's insured, that's all the peace of mind I need.

Strangely enough, the only time I ever had a problem was last August when it was parked up in one of the richest car parks in Europe, the marina front in Puerto Banus 50 yards from Sinatra's Bar. As well as having the priviledge of someone posting a pic of it on exoticspotter.com ... some other scrote nicked 3 of the Ferrari valve dustcaps!

if you speak to some of the TVR bod's they dont seem to have any problems. seems
1. people dont know what they are
2. they look unusual so local idiots dont know what to do
3. its not classed as an in your face car , more of an enthusiasts car

also heard the bmw m coupe thing has the same reaction i.e you never see too many on the road.
When you’re driving around in your 355 or your Aston Martin what’s people’s attitude towards you. Do people shout t0ser ?
only once - white van man, going opposite way stopped adjascent to me, rolled his window down and told me my car was sh1te! I think looking at his van and laughing at him wound him up more, never mind.

The rest of the time has just been totally positive. Said this before on this thread, if you buy a car like this and never use it because you're too afraid of what <might> happen or someone <might> say - forget it! Use it and enjoy it, worse things happen in life!

Lol. I had the same thing in my Lotus - white van man saying my car was slow and shite. I told him its my everyday car and I have a knackered white transit for trackdays!

This thread makes very interesting (also sad) reading. I am a TVR bod and would concur with not - thankfully - having had any problems to date. I DO get very worried leaving it with top off during summer sometimes, and have watched a lot of folk crowd around and stick fingers into the dash etc when looking, but thankfully nothing more significant/sinister.

Completely agree with the comments on the US "aspirational" culture. I lived there for 6 yrs, and although I drove a Mustang V8(certainly not a supercar), comments were generally favourable, positive, and certainly did not leave me fearing for the car. And spaces were large enough that dings generally did not happen!!

Driving a Ferrrai in Central London, I've never had a problem. In fact, quite the opposite with people taking photo's and asking me to rev it. But they are usually tourits.

However, in the Suburbs people notice it, but don't acknowledge it. I once had a guy give me the "universal masterbation" sign as I drove past.

So I drove back in my Honda and took a picture of them!

Most reactions I get are pretty favourable, mostly with people wanting to take photographs. I can only say that bad reactions are generally born out of jealousy, which is sad. I don't consider myself as flash or wealthy; I've worked damn hard for what I have, and if some of the losers you come across occasionally did the same, their lives perhaps wouldn't be so empty or meaningless.

I agree Lambo chick - most sensible people aren't filled with jealousy and hate towards someone due to the car they drive. It has to be said though, if you drive it like a to$$er, you've got to expect some bad feeling in return - we've all seen the minority of 'supercar' owners that drive 'em like they stole'em - there's a few around where I live (central London) and you seem them every weekend upsetting people with driving that should be kept on the track, not the road.

I've only ever had people ask me to rev the engine, take a photo etc too. A white van driver did once give me 'the sign' - you can't beat laughing back to them I reckon.

Hi Guys,

Only had one instance of negative press with the Gallardo (most people usually stop and stare, smile, give you the thumbs up etc). Minibus full of lads on the M6 obviously on their way/to a Pi.s up, 12 of them giving me the thumbs up, 1 giving me the jesticulation signal though!!

What is it with Van drivers though?, I had one guy pull up next to me at the lights and proceeded to tell me how his Cossie would 'whip me all over the road'. I just replied 'Nice Van!'

Enjoy the experience as I'm sure 20/30 years from now we'll all be in electric cars!!
