I just wish theyd make a lightweight rear wheel drive version.
Interestingly, EVO said that when they were testing the Zonda and checking out the 599 GTB they wanted to pop into the Lambo factory to take a look at the LP640 - but they were all in Germany - every single one.
I'm assuming they did get to see it, as the LP640 in all it's glory, is in this months edition....along with the 599GTB and Zonda F Roadsport CS.
Yea Harry Metcalf saw it at VAG factory just a few days before it went to print

I asked Valentino Balboni exactly this question a year ago..Trouble is its too expensive to redesign a whole new transmission for 2wd again. The current 4wd transmission on the Murcielago is actually inherited from the Diablo. This is why the wheels are still only 18'' when they would certainly be better with at least 19''. The Gallardo runs on 19'' because it was a new design back in 2002. But a lighter 2wd Murcie would be fab, but I don't think it will ever happen
Really? I'm suprised - as my 6.0L was a VT, without the VT! - no front drive shafts, no viscous coupling (transforms the gearchange!) etc.
When I spoke to my contact at Lamborghini, he effectively said that it was possible - but the issue was the potential legal implications because it would affect the traction control - but it was not difficult to do - as you rightly pointed out, the VT mechanism was carried over to the Murci.
Curiouser and curioser.....sic!

About the colour... just read this on LAmbo-Power.com from roytoy2003:
Even though I hate the colour on that Murcie... its a damn cool tribute

This color is a SE, only 12 of them made. This was the one I was telling you about that is to honor the 12 Fighter planes that ITALY sent over for Desert Storm war.........They are also to have a emblem of a fighter plane and number on the front fender, the wheels are to be GOLD.......I do not know why they used this one, other than maybe no other car was as ready yet........The color is to symbolize the GREY Jet fighter color.....

Wow, as good as Barbra Streisand, if not better!
megaStreisand, megaStreisand. Damn where's Robert Smith when you need him?
will be seeing this at Geneva.....if it drives as differently from the standard Murci as it looks then my long search will be finally over
Just out of interest, what don't you like about the current Murcie?
Granted the '02-'04 MY had crap brakes (especially on the track) but the 05's brakes are fantastic. The LP640 won't handle any better though, than the current Murcie, and will be a little faster of course, but its no lighter, in fact a little heavier.
It would have been nice to see a 'Stradale' like Murcie - both lighter and faster. Having said all that it looks fantastic..
to be honest dude, i DO like the current Murci...is fantastic...but not fantastic enough fo me to spend that amount on. It's really hard to quantify, but for me there is level of excitement and involvement missing over my diablo.... The Murci is superior in pretty much every respect (though othing like as fast as mine ) but then a VX220T is also better than the elise in every way yet i still have the former.....it's just a little dull in comparison maybe - hard to describe if im honest. Think Anjum has similar thoughts tho
Sadly i think youre spot on right about the fact that the new one wont address many of the issues....but dealmakers suggestion is definitely thought provoking.....I think i want a 'Stradale version' too!!

According to msn.co.uk the Murcielago LP640 has a "V23 engine".
It says also that "The Viscous Traction (VT) all-wheel drive system runs normally with a 30-70 split favoring the rear wheels; however it is possible for 100 percent of the drive force to be directed to either axle".
So, do they mean that the drive can be selectively directed (switched?) to either axle or are they referring merely to it's active operating parameters? 640 horses to the front wheels sounds *interesting* either way.

Sounds like an engineering masterpiece.
Question, Whats the highest number of cylinders ever to gace a V configuration engine?
I recall form childhood passions a supermarine spitfire had a V16 merlin/griffin.
Anyone know of more?

Cadillac, Cizeta, BRM, Auto Union, Iveco have all used V16 engines.
Focke Wolfe produced a V18 aero engine. There are definitely big heavy-duty diesel engines out there with V-20s and more.
