What are the trade paying for a 1997 355?

I'm off to look at a 355 Spider later this week (private sale) and was wondering what the trade will have offered him.
1997 RHD Spider with 28k on the clock with FFSH - in red. Its up for £50k
Obviously I'm not going to try and play the trader, but I'd like an idea of what kind of offer I could chance.

i traded my 97 spider last sept and got 42k for it - had 21000 miles on the clock and was a clean car with fsh.

I think that's a bit pricey for a private sale. I'd expect to see that price at a dealer. Suggest you look at few dealer websites to confirm prices.

I have done and agree - what I wanted to know was what of money he would have been bid by the trade (he is swapping it for something else) - ie if he would have been bid 30k or 45k. Just so I know what kind of negotiating power I have (if it's the right car). Just after a ball-park figure.

£42K is a VERY strong trade bit for a car with 39K, you have obviously spent lots on it though!

The car is too dear - you should try the trade - things are always slow in February, so you may find someone who needs to dump a bit of stock. Low £40's should see you into something nice with sub 20k miles and ready to go (belts etc. done)
Correct me if i am wrong but i think you are very unlikely to find a 1997 RHD 355 spider with SUB 20k miles for low 40's from a dealer.....you might get a 1995/1996 but i seriously doubt you will get a 1997 and you certainly won't get one in the highly sought after red/crema....you may get one in a lesser sought after colour without many options (ie/ standard colour calipers, no shields,no challenge grill etc) but i think you would be lucky to find a 1996 model for low 40's...
And from experience I think by this time of year dealers are not into clearing out convertible stock as it is just the start of what becomes silly season...first rays of sunshine and clear days after winter , bonus pay time in the City of London and so close to spring ....mmm...think not - dealers usually shunt stuff out at Nov - Jan
That said I think you can certainly find something in the mid 40's with low mileage in that year (1997) and private buyers will always trade at a discount to dealers IMHO as dealer is answerable fro car adn warranty with it ( get a proper warranty too if available - capped policies are sh*t - if your engine goes you are looking at 20-25k rebuild - and a £4k capped warranty isnt a lot of help)....
Sorry for the ramble but having just sold my 355 spider in November and knowing a fair bit about the markets at the time I jsut wanted to share what i saw and learnt at the time from the sellers side....I was not to rushed to sell and had a special one off spider with very expensive mods BUT i knew it would never go for 50k and it was a year younger than the car you are looking at....

Basher - please note the phrase "you should try the trade".
Have a look in Top Marques - you can pick up Spiders in that region privately. The specialists will always be cheaper than Ferrari main dealers - they are definately out there.Try ringing a dealer and pretending you are trying to sell him the car you would really like to buy, and see what he offers. That will give you an idea of its real worth.

I sold my 355 12 months ago and advertised for months with not one call!
And when i look now its the same cars week after week. Its ok getting inot this stuff but getting out is areal problem
I would agree with this - the reason is people are asking too much for them. There was a rosso/crema 355 spider in Top Marques in November going for £42,000. 97R 21,000 miles - private sale. I was offered a 97P 20k spider in Giallo by Tom Hartley for £42,000 in December. Ferrari main dealers ask mega-bucks for their cars, but whenthey still have them 90 days later, they will do a deal just to change their stock. Leave your name with 10 dealers, register your interest and sit tight. They will come back to you with a sensible car eventually.
