RE: Ferrari shows 599GTB Fiorano
Discussion
Well this car is significantly lighter if you compare it to the DB9! THe DB9 weighs 1710 kg!! And has 170 hp less to boot! This will be one heck of a performer...and I am sure the engine is just restricted to provide 40 or so less hp than the Enzo. I can see potential owners of these cars going to aftermarket Ferrari specialists and getting the engine derestricted...wish I had the greenbacks!!
The more I see it the more I like it. But the front could have been much prettier by just changing those lights IMHO.
I guess the real question is, with Vantage RS's, Gallardo specials and new 911 turbos *and* their tuned brethren: will it cut the mustard performance wise.
I mean it's all very well forking out a lot of money for a fast GT, but you'd think twice if you'd be likely to lose a traffic-light battle against another GT costing half as much. Well, I would anyhow.
In other words, how much faster is this exactly than the "911-class" ?

Does anyway know how the adjustable damping works with the eletrical field? I think a simliar system is being used on the new Audi tt shooting brake concept.
Varying an electric/magnetic field around the oil changes its viscosity. I believe...
The damper fluid has tiny ferrous particles in it that dependant to the strength and direction of magnetic field applied to it, line up more and more and in turn increase the viscosity of the damper fluid. The good part about it is that it's infinately adjustabe and virtually instant in it's response.
IIRC, the Cadillac STS of the mid to late 90's was the first production car available with this technology.....and what a fine handling that car was

I love the way this car looks. I am not too much of a fan of the wheels in it though. And that is a very very very heavy car OMG! Why oh why is it that heavy?! No ownder it has a 620 hp engine...I bet the SLR will eat it for breakfast!
Um the SLR has less power and more weight. Then again it does have hand-of-god torque, so you're probably right...
Agree with all who say that it looks much better in person (at Geneva Show) than in the launch photos. There are about 4 or 5 of them on display in several colours including a red one on the Pinninfaria stand.
Two petty niggles for me include the font parking sensors which (if specified) spoil the lines of the otherwise beautiful nose and the fact those 'flying-buttresses' appear to be separate panels as opposed an extension of the rear wings. I feel that this made them look a little bit flimsy /non structural but other than that it looks incredible.
