Anyone had any positive experiences with tyres other than PZero's on a 355?

They don't seem all that bad in the dry but are a bit poo through standing water (a pet hate of mine as I always feel that one day I'm going to end up in the central reservation or a ditch). I also had a bit of a moment on snow/ice at speed on the M26 at the weekend and was badly puckered up through the weather in Northern France. That said, snow and ice (you wouldn't believe how bad the A1 was) aren't something I'm expecting to do frequently!

Must get the car cleaned off but there's something slightly fantastic about seeing it with 600 miles worth of road grime

Hi Andy, I take it you are at work at this time?

Well I am but will try not to make it a regular occurance, not just at such an early hour but in general Ah, sorry just starting dreaming again.

With regards to the P Zero's, I don't know how good or bad they really are. I've had a few "moments" recently in this weather, the worst being sideways for a while trying to overtake on Finchley Road, in Swiss Cottage. It wasn't a pretty sight and nor was I for a while after. Girlfriend thought it was "fun"? Yeh right, not for me. Another was changing across two lanes on the M4 towards Swindon when I only meant to change one. Not much else gets the adrenaline pumping like that.

My tyres are still new so I wouldn't fancy changing them, but I can say I had Michelins, Bridgestone SO2 and Goodyear Eagle F1s on the Supra, and of the 3 I preferred the Bridgestones. They were better for the rain, and were longer lasting too. The goodyears were not bad, but I think they were a softer compound and they got shagged really quickly, and the S02 were better all round. Michelins were okay but expensive. Overall I preferred the S02s. I've been through at least 8 sets of tyres on the Supra and 4 of them were Bridgestones. I think Bridgestone now do an S03??? but not sure. Yokohama are meant to be good tyres, but don't know so can't say.

But honestly, I think its better to be less confident with these cars in the rain and keep them from becoming one with the scenery than to change the tyres and take extra risks. P Zeros may not be the best, but they are not bad either. Weather should be changing soon, so unless you are scheduled for a tyre change, I wouldn't bother.

If you do change, there is a good roundabout I know which is really safe to practice sliding and drifting your car around, let me know and I'll give you details via email before you swap tyres

Take care and regards

Ali

Cheers Ali.

Hear what you're saying about having something that makes you a bit more reserved, and my tyres have plenty of life in them so no way I'm changing them just yet. I was going a bit too fast to be hitting slush really, but it kind of came out of nowhere as you couldn't see the first bits of it. Quick apology to my passenger was needed as I think she was as surprised as I was!

Will just have to use a hotter cycle on the washing machine for the next month or so.

Yokos are great on Caterhams but not sure what they're high performance range for heavier cars are like.

When the Pirellis wear out I think I might give some Bridgestones a go. Heard nothing but good reports about these on many cars so has to be something in it.

And when the weather clears I'll drop you a line about your roundabout Will also be at the VW meeting if you make it.

PS Yep, at work. Have to be able to pay for the petrol somehow

I had SO2s on my Cerberas and was very impressed with them in the wet, they are a harder compound than the Pzeros that I have had on the 355 and 360, I was speaking to Don Palmer at a recent wet track day and his opinion was that the best wet weather tyres are the SO2 period, they are better than the SO3, that said I like the Pzeros in the dry although they do apear to wear quite quickly. Not sure that Yokohama make tyres that fit 355/360 thought it was only Pirelli, Bridgestone and Goodyear
