OK, I know there is a little discrepancy in the price of these, but which is the most sensible (if there is such a thing) buy - judging on depreciation, running costs, likelyhood of repairs due to breakdown, etc?

I've heard lots banded about 360s being cheaper to run than a 355, but then surely they will depreciate a lot more?

Has a 45-50k 550 dropped pretty much all the way or will it keep plumitting? - what's a REALISTIC service cost? Read in EVO horror stories on servicing.

Basically what in real terms will the 3 cars cost to own each year? I know which I'd preffer, but what will it cost me?

Virgil.

Thanks for that...presume you are a little 911 biased?

Porches are very acomplished but think you are either a Porsche fan or Ferarri fan at heart, and whilst I would be VERY happy with a porsche, I really WANT a ferarri.

Ouch...if only I had that kind of money to spend How long you had it? I may be able to justify 3-4k a year tops, I'm not in the big league yet

Not biased at all. I would LOVE a 355 and nearly bought one, but the 911 costs me £1.5k a year all in (OPC warranty, a service, tyres, pads + consumables...)

No contest.

Depreciation...???

I know Porsche cost a lot less to run as they are german and therefore generally very efficient...and have thought about a 911, or even a boxter, but I'd always be wanting a Ferrari...

Think the old adage goes:

Head buys Porsche, heart buys Ferarri...

So that's £57k on three years - or about £350 a week.

I reckon in eighteen months on my 2000 996 I have lost £6k in depreciation, plus spend £2.5k on upkeep and warranty (OPC).

So £8.5k all in.

Assuming same again for upkeep and another £4k depreciation, that's another £6.5k for the next eighteen months.

Total for three years = £15k ish or £5k pa. £100 a week basically.

OR, according to my profile.........

72p a mile - 911 Carrera
68p a mile - BMW 330CS

Worth the extra 4p? Oh yes

72p it may be, but for me you can't put a price on the passion a fcar or lambo brings over a porsche (and yes i've owned 2 porsches a gt3 mk2 and a c4)

I agree - this totally not a Vesuvius defends 911 thread..... (another one.....!)

I'll get slaughtered for this by my Porsche forum mates but if I could swap for a 355 I would do it in an instant. Frankly I am just too scared and don't have enough of a financial cushion to hedge the risk.

So sadly I can't

If you'd like to do a swap for a week to let me experience it, then PM me..... Or even a windows down passeneger hoon..........Or even just open the taps as you drive past me on the pavement........

Edited to say that your car looks amazing. And I am in a jealous rage !

I wonder if the 575 compares more favourably than the 550 in terms of reliability?

It was my birthday last Saturday my mate must have forgotten to bring mine round...

Actually, I'm lucky if I get a card off my friends!
