great condition/immac. history/fab body.. but am I mad to buy a 308 with this miles?...
in a few years it'll be near 100k... and who's going to buy one with that mileage without a rebuild?
Anyone got a 100k+ car? should I spend another 5K now and get a lower mileage?
feedback gratefully received

I dont see the problem , I've just bought a 308 with 60k , and it was the best i found by an absolute mile , get it PPI'd first to see if there are any underlying faults or problems.
If you look around you'll find lots with lower mileage and probably in a worse condition , so as long as its been maintained properly you should be ok.
The advice I got whilst i was looking was that with the lower mileage cars, there is always a chance that they may have had the mileage tampered with , so unless you can catorgorically prove that the mileage is genuine , sometimes a higher mileage car can be a better option.

Jos over at fcars has a 308 with 102,000 plus miles and it's running great.

I'd guess that half the mileage reading in 308/328's have been tampered with sometime. All you have to do is crawl under the rear, unclip a jubilee clip on the gearbox and yank out the speedo cable that connects into it. Then tie it to the axle with duck tape. Then your 328/308 won't put on any more miles at all.
Of course I read this somewhere

I am gobsmacked chuffed just bought a fabulous 1980 308GTB from 'The Hairpin company' in Compton Basset .. it is beautiful and drives very sweetly.. cant wait to pick it up.. if you fancy a trip out on the A4 past marlborough it's worth it - neil has some amazing cars there, including an original daytona coupe with only 38k. usd to belong to Ian Frazer ofcar mag fame.but notoverrestored..my car still has the 70's leather smell.. i am delirious! thanks for your advise, and hope to meet up with some of you at some stage.. this is my first one, and i am touch wood confident it is not hiding any horrors -

Out of curiosity (and in the desparate hope I might be able to afford one) what would the going rate be for a car like this?

Assuming a decent 308 from a dealer/renowned independent with sub-40k on the clock is going to be circa £25k what discount should apply for something with twice the mileage?

308s (non-GT4s) are rarely seen for less than 18k or so IME. A yellow one did sell for less a short while back (and I think it may be up for sale again).

Do they have a web site? Was this car a pop up or plexi? And what was it up for? Just curious you understand

BTW, congrats on the car! Nothing like owning a Ferrari if you're a petrolhead.

Thanks.. mine was 23k, website: www.thehairpincompany.co.uk .
The Daytona coupe is not on there, although there is a convertible, but the coupe was at 140k! they have all sorts of interesting cars there - many not on the pics.
Anyone know who is good for insurance??
Buy on condition/history not mileage..

Good stuff! I bought a GT4 at auction with 32k from new on it for £13k - ("an object lesson in buying one of these superb cars" - Classic cars mag!!) and it hadn't done enough miles!!! LSD had rusty friction plates from lack of use, £1,000 fixed that.

I put 30k more on it in 18 months and it was running so much sweeter when I sold it. Unfortunately the body work doesn't hang together as well as the mechanicals, so keep an eye out for bubbles!

Enjoy the car mate,
I actually test drove that car and was well impressed with it , sounds awesome . It was a toss up between that one and the gts I bought, so I'm glad to see its gone to a good home.

Had a fabulous first day, drove from Compton Basset to Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, last day of their season tomorrow.. a great day out, very friendly crowd with some bonkers cars doing the 1000 yard climb in under 25 seconds! Had a chat with Simon... who climbs a 6.0L HWM from 1950. Spectacular stuff, racing tomorrow from 10am all day, all sorts of cars. I am going again tomorrow with the 308.. there was a well used 365BB in the car park last visit.

Brought my Granada with 115,000 on it, and passed it on with just a tad over 195,000 absolutely no probs. Dont think high mileage is a big problem these days with modern cars, provided they have been serviced, oil changed etc etc.

we are talking about a 70's or 80's Ferrari so how is this post relevant?

Thought we were talking just mileage here??, sounds like a high mileage Ferrari doesnt wear as well as a high mileage Granada? must admit I didnt know it was a Ferrari, whoooops.
