Gallardo Depreciation
Discussion
Given that after using the search facility all topics on depreciation seem really old i thought i would ask in a new thread.
What are peoples current takes on the following, and just how much do you think you would lose on a Gallardo, imagine each of these cars is owned for a year...
1. New 07 build car (buy now for approx £127k)
2. Used 06 build car (buy now for approx £115k)
3. One of the older i.e. 54 / 05 cars (buy now for approx £100k)
Look forward to your replies.

Cheers for the comments, yes i am concerned about depreciation, but i don't want a porsche! was just trying to guage the scale of the hit!
First, welcome to Piston Heads
If you're concerned about depreciation (that's at least two people out there then ) perhaps you should invest (ha! Not really a Lambo word!) in an early ('05) low mileage car. It'll still have some warranty on it and, whatever you pay, you'll not take too much of a hit on it when it comes to sell. Figures are still impossible to predict, though. There are a few hilarious doom-mongers here who will chip in any second.... now!
Demand and prices are firming up on the Gallardo but it'll never be as solid as a Dancing Donkey, IMO. Owning a Lambo is still considered to be a daft idea by many. Which suits me fine.
Good luck
Out of interest (and this is purely bored speculation, cos I'm playing a poker tournament and not being dealt much)is it possible to run something like a new murky lager and have it pay it's keep by doing track days etc while still retaining enough time in the car to feel that you still actually own it?

I'm sure the lovely Mr G has answered this before. The long and short of it being.. no, not really. But, just owning it can often be enough, even if it doesn't make financial sense.
Hope you get a decent hand!

I'm sitting at around the 60th mark ... around 900 left in from a field of 2000. I did have a nice pay out when I drew four 4s. Playing 7 card stud, by the way ... and I don't feel like counting the way I need to. Probably shouldn't have entered the game.
I'll sacrifice a goat for you! Fingers crossed!

It very much depends whether you are trading at a dealer or selling privately at the end of the term. I quizzed a dealer about this last week - basically the dealer wants to make around 5k margin, if the car is over two years old and out of warranty the dealer needs to add an aftermarket warranty £3k, the dealer needs to fully service the car, probably do some cosmetics, pay the VAT man - in short the dealer reckoned that to make 5k he needed to bid between 12-15k under the forecourt price. Hence for one of the older cars kept for a year purchased at 100k, forecourt depreciation say 15k, bid price another 12-15k -> you buy at 100k - you sell at 70-75k giving a total cost to drive of 25-30k. If you can sell privately at the end of the term you may not lose quite so much, but people are very wary of these cars without a warranty and lambo seem to be shooting themselves in the foot by failing to offer an aftermarket warranty package.
Of course this could all be bullshit!
Hi all,
I guess this subject has been done to death, very surprised to see no response from Octane!!
For my two pennies worth, no one likes to loose money, but being a petrol head, losing money on cars is one of the side effects. These cars are all about the emotions they stir within you and how they affect your life. Simon (spider) and I were talking this weekend about how our Lambo's have changed our lives (for the better). For me no amount of money can compensate for that.
I guess if you want to minimise your 'hit' you should buy one of the early 53 or 04 plate cars that are now around 80-85K, that way if you kept it a couple of years you'll probably on loose 10-15K as its done its main depreciating (look at a 2000 360 as a benchmark for a price)
As for my car i paid 97K for it 15 months ago and the Lambo manch bid me 72K on a possible trade in recently. Another reason why its not worth getting rid of.
Just buy one drive it and enjoy it!!
Andy.
