THE 2003 FERRARI HILL CLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP opens this Sunday at North Weald, an ex RAF airfield near Harlow in Essex. A remarkably large and varied entry of sixteen Ferraris includes a 360 Modena, 512TR, several F335s and 348s, the usual 328 and 308 runners, and also remarkably an F40. Last year's Championship winner Jon Goodwin is favourite to win on scratch, but will be chased hard by Peter Hayman expected back after a long absence with his 512TR. Nick Frost (348GTC) will not be far behind, and maybe Chris Hitchman driving his father's F355 could surprise a few people, including his dad out for the first time in his new 360 Modena! All members are welcome to come and watch.

The event is a round in both championships. Entry is restricted to competitors and support vehicles only, and we've been advised that due to the size of this event, they're going to strictly enforce this. (Sometimes they relax this and let spectators in, but not at this event.) It's generally possible to blag a spare ticket from one of the competitors, for example TVR supporters can probably get hold of one via the TVR championship discussion forum.

Nick Frost (348GTC) put in his best performance ever and finally broke Jon Goodwins long unbeaten string of wins with his F355. Richard Prior pulled off a great third overall behind these two with his 348ts. An amazingly large 18 car Ferrari entry included three new competitors and the return of Peter Hayman - his 512TR finally back in action after nearly a year. Sadly Peter's car suffered a transmission failure as did Len Watson on his 328GTS. More details, points and times will be posted soon.
