Just checked the oil level after 1400 miles on the new engine and it appears to have used about a litre in that mileage. I know the manual says it can use up to 1ltr for every 600 miles(1000K) so I'm OK.

Just wondered if everyone else has got similar levels of oil usage?

Andy.

Mine is not too dissimilar, Andy.

Over the past 12,000 miles, I'd say it has averaged 3/4 litre to a litre for each 2,000 miles, sometimes more if the car has been driven harder (and a bit more when it was new).

Kind regards

Steve

Thanks Steve,

Out of interest, what oil are you using? I did use mobil 1 0W-40 for a while but was told that its visc is to thin? From the recent bills I've had from Lambo Manch they use Esso Ultra 5W-40.

I'm using loads of oil - 1ltr per 800 miles
but I think it's because I spend half the time in London traffic

I'm using AGIP oil - I thought that the warranty was only valid if you used the suggested AGIP oil

although it is a pain to get

Andy

You're correct - 5W40 is the correct viscosity.

HR Owen used Esso Ultron in my car; Lambo B'ham (where I have just had the 2 year service completed) are using Castrol Softec 5W40.

Traxx - AGIP is not required to maintain the warranty (witness most official Lamborghini service centres do not use it).

Kind regards

Steve

Checking the bloomin oil on the Gallardo is such a pain in the arse (farting around reving the car up, then getting bloody oil all over the rear deck etc etc). I just bob into Lambo Wycombe every 1k miles or so and the kind chapps there do it for me + top up if required

Much simpler + a nice excuse to be out the office on sunny days

My old G was thirsty on oil but the new one isn't too bad. I've put in a couple of litres in the last 6,000km (when it was last serviced)

Followed my own advice for a change and went to Lambo Brum on Monday to have the oil checked by a professional.

Consumption has been 1 litre in the last 4000 miles. Current mileage 11600.

Consumption was also 1 litre in the first 4000 miles.

And, when the first service was done at 7500 miles (so 3500 miles after the top-up) the technician said "about a litre" had been used.

So, Larry is using about a litre every 4000 miles or so. He's obviously not a heavy drinker but, more importantly, his consumption is stable, suggesting he's very oil tight. Which is nice.

In answer to the un-asked question. Clutch wear (original 'C' clutch still) was 37% worn at 7500 miles, and 60% worn at 11600. So 20000 miles should be do-able. The 'E' clutch is even better.

My new 'E' Clutch seems to be better for engaging reverse than the old one but 2nd gear is still a no no when cold.Always do 1st to 3rd untill the oil is showing at least 70degrees. makes me cringe when I think about the E-gear system engaging 2nd when its cold as mine does 'drag' in to gear, so i guess its doing the same thing. Apparently the 06 boxes are alot better.
Anyone got an 06 manual and care to comment?

Andy.

My old 04 e-gear (with the original clutch) had enough meat left at 33,000km for the service advisor to estimate 50,000 before needing work. I must have got one of the good ones. I should track down the new owner and see how he is going. When I traded it a year ago, it was easily the highest mileage car in Australia.

v10power (from Lambo Power here), mhh. wavey

I remember Aram saying his '04 had done 30,000 miles on the original clutch. These sorts of figures are quite rare though so yours must have been a good one for an early car.
Also, I suspect Aussie kms are easier on the clutch than Euro kms.
I remember an old mate of mine from Brisbane planning a European road trip. He looked at the map and, using his experience of covering 800 miles in a day in Oz, conluded he could see the whole of Europe in less than a week and still have time to take in the TT races in the Isle of Mann. As it turned out, he barely had enough time to see the Isle of Mann properly! laugh
