My understanding is that all 3200's have power steering noise on lock - mine certainly did.

I found the a/c to be fine but it was prone to going from cool to warm with just one click on the dial - I was happy with it on cool so it was'nt a problem.

As for 'check engine' lights they are very sensitive with sensors usually the problem. These are replaced under warranty and are quite expensive. Other 'check engine' faults are usually related to turbo hoses and the heater matrix. Neither of these were covered by my warranty. You can tell the severity of the problem by whether the car goes into limp home mode but this can usually be overcome by a switching off and restarting! My experience was that the electronics were far too sensitive and therefore gave you plenty of warning to deal with a problem.

Andrew - can you give us a bit more info about what was and wasn't covered by your warranty? Getting close to a purchase now and want to ensure I can afford it - which I can't if half the car isn't covered!!!

My car was bought at 2 years old and sold at just under 4 years. It was bought from a well know main dealer on the south coast. Very soon after purchase the cylinder head gaskets went and the warranty co. refused to pay bu the dealer did it at their expense (£3000+ retail). I understand that if it did'nt happen so quickly the warranty would have covered it.

The warranty has paid for:
-1 damper
-Handbrake ratchet
-3 or so sensors (the main reason for 'check engine' coming on)

I have had to pay for:
-Perished turbo hoses twice (<£300 a time)
-Handbrake shoes and alarm sensor stuck behind dashboard (c£400)
-1 subsidised service (yr 3 c£700*)
-1 warranty renewal at 3 yrs old for £860**

* The unsubsidised service costs are c£900, c£1100 and c£1500 for yrs 4, 5 & 6 but vary a lot.
**Warranty costs have gone through the roof due to claims - The best I was quoted for renewal at 4 yrs old was £1500!

Overall I don' think that these costs are silly but you decide!

So turbo hoses are a wear and tear item?? eh? and why pay for the alarm sensor? Clutch, pads, discs, bulbs I can all understand - but hoses perishing?

Hoses going is quite common I believe but I got thro' 2 years with no issues on clutch, tyres, exhaust, discs and pads.
