TOM,

I got my Diablo earlier this year after a lot of research. It would take too long to write it all down here, however if you want to have a chat, then send me a e-mail and I can call you. Additionally, I got quite a bit of info from other Diablo PH'ers which proved invaluable.

There's never very many for sale at any one time, so it's worth keeping your eye on the market for a good few months before taking the plunge, i.e get to know stock (and prices). A big thing that I found was that even when you're ready to buy, the market may well have completely dried up. Keep an eye on the stock at the following:-
- www.santagatalamborghini.com/
- www.jasonbarker.co.uk/
- Verdi's

I got my Diablo from Sant Agata Classics and have had no complaints... I'd actually recommend him.... they're based up north so a bit of a pain for test drives if you're down south... additionally, I was recommended Carrera Sports in Haywards Heath for inspections and servicing work which would be in your neck of the woods.... the guys there are genuinely very knowledgable and helpful. They do not charge the main dealer prices and I have found them to be good value.

For the sort of money you're looking at, you could get a 4wd VT (95/96/97) or an early 2wd SV (97ish), however as I said it's worth looking around for a while to get a sense of the market.

I am still pretty clued up as to what is around at the moment since a friend is currently also looking!?!?... a PHer?

Evo magazine (issue 50) did an article on four £50k supercars (Diablo/F456/F355/M1).... worth a quick read.

Tom

I had a Diablo for a couple of years - it was an early LHD car and it was very reasonable (relatively) cost- wise to run during that time.

I'd definitely consider LHD if you are not intending to do significant mileage - the early cars especially drive a lot better in LHD.

The one problem you'll find is getting a decent place to service the car - there is only one main dealer (expensive) and the specialists are few and far between with differing reputations (for the record I used Verdi).

Suggest you get hold of the Diablo buying guide in Evo - its not the one mentioned above as it is more detailed. If you can't get hold of it give me a shout offline.

WOW!Great response,I will checkout the EVO/Other Mags and I pass CARRERA SPORT in Haywards Heath at least once a week,so maybe a chat is in order, still early days yet so need to do a bit more homework on these BEASTS!,think I,ll have to turn up in the Viper when its time for a test drive as my everyday car is a.....MG ZR VAN!Don,t want dealers thinking I,m a dreamer, how did you find getting a test drive?,without a case full of £50 notes to show your serious?.Any dealers more helpfull than others? Thanks again for your input.

dealers and tset drives...dont get me started....like most exclusive cars, the dealers can be right tw*ts

When Jason was in charge, all was well...since then....well its a bit varied. I always just phone up and book one. end of story. Dealers are always suspicious of people who 'just turn up' - cos it probably means they were just on the way past and thought 'ooh, that looks like fun', rather than 'i might buy one of those'.

I understand that the Kensington garage has been getting better press recently over dirves etc.. cos a LOT of people originally complained that they were so far up their own a*ses that no-one could get a drive.... so think they've altered their attitude a bit.

look at as many as you can before you buy (or even drive) anything...its surprising how varied theoretically the same thing can be.

N

p.s. and I personally think the prices for used diablos (except the 6.o and SE) will drop a bit next year cos 2nd hand Murcis will then be more reaonable money.... only my opinion tho...
