Should I?????????????? Was after a 1 yr old but this is obviously cheaper and is a low miler. I would extend the warranty, and it would have had the belts etc done but still its 3yrs old - whats the residuals going to be in 2 yrs from now???

Well if I had a spare £25-£30k I'd join you!.... the words 'outrageous value for money' come to my mind, servicing wont be cheap but i'm sure its worth it

What else has soo much style and charisma?

Obviously I'm biased, and think you jolly well should get a 3200 for all the reasons that lotusnobles mentions and a hell of a lot more

However, in response to your specific question - what's it going to be worth...

Well, looking at 98 cars out there (therefore 5 years old) you're looking around the 25k mark.

However check carefully the spec of the car, be fully sure that all the campaigns have been carried out.
Make sure there is a red 'security' key with the car (3000 quid for a new one!) The interior was updated a little in 2000 (I think, not got EVO here with me for the buyers guide).

I went for a 1 year old car in the end because being one of the last made all the earlier niggles have been engineered out, and all campaigns are covered. If the car has been properly maintained though, then it should be fine.

earlier cars had cylinder head problems I believe, as Mr Tony said make sure all campaigns(recalls) have been carried out & that you get a good warranty. I love mine.

How do I know if all the campaigns have been done ???

Its from Maranello btw so it will have a 1 yr warranty plus I will buy another year and keep the car for 2 yrs in total. Car has all the options on it already. My main concern is what is and isn't covered by the warranty. Coming from an audi I'm used to things going wrong (don't laugh now) and just taking it to the dealer and getting them to fix it for free. Its not the going wrong that worries me - its what I may have to pay for that is outside the warranty! Anyone have any +ve or -ve experience of this?

If from Maranello should be fine, just ask for documentation that all campaigns have been done.

Re warranty, its usually anything that breaks that is covered, nothing that can atually wear out like brake pads etc.

no experience yet (and hoping to avoid it altogether!).
Bough mine from maranellos a couple of weeks back. Mail me offline for more detailed discussion.

Got the impression the warranty covers a lot, but then I guess you always think that until something breaks....

whats the spec, is it on their site?

Dave

I agree with all of the above and then some.

My warranty runs out in Jan 04 and I'm thinking of keeping it for another year. The Maserati warranty has been very good - I haven't had many problems but they haven't tried to wriggle out of anything. The warranty extensions are expensive and my experience of TVR extended warranties wasn't good - they never wanted to pay for anything - so I might not buy an extension unless I'm sure the coverage is comprehensive.

It's a tricky decision but if you're buying from Marranello you're paying top $$$ for a good car and service.

And YES YOU SHOULD!

The warranty have covered virtually all the niggles I have had. If there is any complaint it is that repairs take days rather than hours. Whenever it goes for service or a repair it seams to be gone for around a week. As its not my daily transport it is not a real problem, but beware if you are planning it as your only set of wheels. The built quality apparently went up considerably after the new factory was build which I beleive was late 2000. So a 2001 car or later is probably favourite! I have not yet decided whether to hang on to mine or to change it early next year. Does anyone know if you can extend the warranty and if so how much it costs. Also has anyone had any experience of the later model coupe and how much better or worse it is than the 3200?

mal - you can extend the warranty as long as the current warranty has not expired. not sure of the cost, try a few dealers, I'd imagine it's a standard price no matter where you go though.

david - are you going auto / manual?

They do offer courtesy cars, although I have never bothered as it is not my main set of wheels.

Guys - can you help me complile a quick checklist of things I should consider (havn't bought a car for 3 years so will probably forget something!)

1. Red Key;
2. All campaigns done;
3. Full maranello service history;
4. HPI Check;
5. Tracker fitted y/n?;
6. Are there any spares I should look for (tyre foam stuff, toolkit etc?);
7. Decent tread on tyres;
8. All electrics working - may need some assistance on this one!
9. Anything I should look for from a cold/hot start?
10. Anything else - if specific to a 3200 all the better.

Thanks guys.

I only hope the price will be right!

David,

Spare was an option on 3200, you should get tyre foam though. (Optional wheel was space saver anyway so no real advantage in having it IMHO).

Electrics - check the air con. Seems one potential weak spot in that several people here seem to have had minor issues with it.

Check for scuffs on the alloys - the 3200 alloys stand proud of the tyres in many cases (do on mine). Given that is a maranello car though I doubt there will be any visible blemishes, their prep is pretty damn good.

And the story on that one is? D'you have any more info Night- there's got to be something like accident damage, major mechanical woes etc that prevented the seller from selling it, for a lot more than that, privately.

3200 - for £14K. I'm surprised they even took it, but maybe it's part of a special deal on another car and they've got another dealer lined up to take it off their hands. If they keep it I bet it'll be on for £30K.

David - My 3200 didn't come with the optional spare wheel so I went and bought one. The foam only works on some punctures, expires after a couple of years and costs a lot (£100) to replace. If you get a puncture, which the foam can't fix and you don't have a spare wheel, whilst enjoying the mountain roads of Spain or Italy you'll be well and truly f****d. You would of coarse have put the wheel on the backseat so an old sheet would be useful. So far I've been lucky and my car has only cost me the annual service but it's true that it seems to take a few days. But I guess if it's a problem and you make sure they're aware of the time issue then you should be able to reduce that to two days. Electrics - try everything, the sports suspension is tough to test. The most noticeable difference is when the ASR kicks in to you'll have to give it some stick. If you're buying from Marranello's then if you find something that doesn't work after you've got it I'm sure they'll sort it out. Good luck.
