Ferrari Scaglietti

Bolognese with that sir?

Ferrari Scaglietti

Ferrari have released more pictures of their new 2+2 and have confirmed the name as the rather pasta-like 'Scaglietti'.

The 1840kg front engined coupe makes use of an all aluminium space frame chassis housing a front mounted 5748cc V12 good for 540bhp at 7250rpm. The gearbox is rear mounted and the change mechanism is a new electro hydraulic set up with six ratios.

The body has been designed by Pininfarina and is an evolution of the 456 ingredients rather than being anything particularly radical - some might even say it looks a bit ordinary in the pictures. Interior space is improved and the boot capacity is 25% bigger than the outgoing 456's.

Ferrari claim a top speed of 195mph and 60mph reached in 4.2 seconds.

Just what I was thinking. I used to have a Coupe and I'm pleased to see that its styling hasn't gone to waste.

Scaglietti was, IIRC, the designer of the Ferrari 250 GTO and 250 LM, as well as a host of gorgeous Alfas and various Italian rebodies.
So this is the 456M replacement - Ferrari's Cerbera. With this, the only cars left in the world with pop-up headlights are the Chevrolet Corvette and DeTomaso Guara.
The styling reminds me of a mixture of 250GTE, Pininfarina coupe and Maranello. They've kept it conservative to reflect the slightly more refined nature of the car.

Reminds me of a MK3 RX7 a bit. Don't like the front at all.

If you cover the front grill, the shape of the headlights and the front wings are as if you are looking at the Fiat Barchetta ! Which is a pretty car anyway

ok well early days and judging cars from early press releases is often a mistake. Presence is something thats hard to judge from just a photo / sketch...

however Im suprised nobody has mentioned the hyundai coupe (obviously based on the 456 in the first place), ok it's not a direct resemblance, but the cut out sides / headlights look (from memory at least rather similar....)

Also not a million miles away from being the basta*d child of a maserati 4200 and the outgoing 456... (which is no bad thing IMHO!)

Poor choice of names IMHO.

In the US a "scag" is a rather unattractive female of negotiable morals. Not great for the marketing boffins to deal with...

...Also, the official "death" of the Esprit is 2004. The last 33 US spec models are being cobbled together as we speak...
