Do I or don't I? If so, which one do you recommend?

If you do a search on the forum here there should be a link to a soundfile of the tubi.

Think it's this discussion

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=63&h=&t=37339

and the soundfile itself

www.DaBoomSoftware.com/sounds/Maserati3200Tubi.wav

(WAV Courtesy of Alex Hancock one of our fellow 3200 afficionados here.)

I think the generalm opinion was that it didn't particularly suit the 'discrete' nature of the car. However like all these things it's a matter of taste.

Although I didn't want to keep the Tubi I'm now thinking of trying one from QuickSilver. It's a lot cheaper and you could try it first and let us all know what you think!

Got any info on that one Alex?
More importantly would it invalidate the warranty?

You need to contact info@quicksilverexhausts.com and speak to a chap called Paul Goddard. The cost should be £460 including delivery & VAT - you'll need to get someone to fit it or do it yourself. Apparently they felt their existing 3200 exhaust was too quiet so they're producing a louder one.

I don't think you'll have a warranty problem as when I had the Tubi Marranello did some warranty work on it!

Thanks for the advice. I've gone for the Tubi.

I disagree with the "doesn't suit the car" point of view. I think it suits the car very well. After all, the Maser is a performance GT and competes amongst the 575, 911 etc. Of its peers its the only one with a crap exhaust note when pushed - even the new Conti GT sounds better than a stock 3200.

Lack of exhaust note has been my biggest grumble about the car ever since I got it over 2 years ago. If Porsche can get the exhaust note right on their turbo cars, then its about time Maserati did.

I also looked at the insurance angle in some depth - here goes. In year 1, the warranty is by Maserati Spa - they refuse cover if there is a sports exhaust. In yrs 2 and 3 its a dealer warranty and the insurer is UK based and (apparently) has no issue with a sports exhaust.

Will post another sound file once its fitted and I get it to Germany!
