Looking at an ex demo CC with 5500 miles on the clock at around 54k. Spec is ok, no sat nav or phone but just about everything else. Does this sound ok to anyone or is the mileage a bit high on an ex demo - btw are the engines properly run in on these cars or are they knackered by over exuberent test drives?

Personally I would like to order to spec but dealers seem not to be too interested in doing this and I wonder if it is financial suicide anyway. If I do develop suicidal tendencies what kind of discount should I be aiming for?

Cant really comment on that actual car of course. But ex-demo covers quite a range of uses. They do get driven quite hard from the outset as the drivers dont worry about about such trivial things as running the engine in. Its proberly with that sort of mileage been a service loan car and we all know how hard loan cars get driven!
I nearly bought a Lotus Carlton ex demo a few years ago myself from a Vauxhall dealer when an insider stopped me and said "I wouldnt if i was you, that thing is the (dealers name) whore. Its been ridden hard by everyone!"

I'd say that it's a little bit expensive given the current market conditions. £51-52K nearer the mark. Ex demo covers a multitude of sins but it is unlikely to be a service loan vehicle, though I expect the sales guys will have given it a caneing.

Buying new, would, at the moment be financial suicide there are alot of nearly news in the dealer network due to a regestration incentive for the "53" plate so there are a lot of "ex-demo" bargains around

In my experience salesmen let you red line cars with minimal mileage from cold. Would'nt stop me buying one though if I only wanted it for <3 years.

I think lower and £49-50k is the right purchase price if it is an 03 plate.

I presume you say this because the warranty is three years long? Also do you mean lower milage is right or that 49-50k is about right for a car with 5k miles?

Graypaul are selling 03 reg cars with 2-3k miles for £52k advertised, say £49-50k for a deal.

Lots of dealers rushed through demo registrations for a massive sales incentive which ended in September. There are loads around so play them off.

For me I would much prefer a few months' old demo car for £10k less than my ideal spec new car. You could always buy the extended 4th year warranty, keep the car 3-3.5 years and never worry.

Had a trawl through the Maser approved used thing on the main website and I get the impression that ASKING prices have firmed a bit. I wonder if this is a case of Marenello Concesionaires trying to force the dealers to ask more to give the impression that residuals are better than they are. There now seems to be huge variations on identical cars dependant on which dealer you look at. Perhaps Maranello have more influence over some dealers than others - for example it appears that Graypaul in Loughboro are asking more for thier cars than the Sheffield branch ... It would make sense for Maranello to try and control the market as they will soon have 3 of the 16 dealers and wouldn't want thier punters being tempted to drive up north for better prices .... or am I being too Machieavellian?
