Funny story for you tubi enthusiasts.Got a '96 355 Spider which the boys from scuderia fitted a tubi to about a year back.Anyway, was in North Leeds on Sunday night about midnight, and on the way back home took a detour so to pass under the Leeds/Bradford airport tunnel.Flys through the roundabout on the approach and hammers through it hitting the rev limiter and nearly deafening myself.Noise was incredible.Passed a Fiat Uno half way through that veered to the left as I overtook it and was laughing out loud by the time I stopped at the lights half mile later.Soon stops laughing when the old bill in a marked Volvo pulls up behind with lights flashing.Turns out he'd heard me through the tunnel going in the OPPOSITE direction! After a cursory look round and a look under the engine cover he bade me farewell with a grin telling me although I he had'nt seen an offence committed he could have booked me for causing a nusiance!! So they are'nt all bad u see!! Best money I ever spent on that exhaust. he he!

Good story, have driven through those tunnels though never in the TVR. I quite like the tunnels around the train station in Leeds city centre Think I have nearly perfected the revs to get optimum resonance (sad I know)

I live near Wakefield, e-mail me if you want to go for a blast sometime. A few of us Yorkshire tiv owners meet up quite often to go 'play', you would be most welcome to come along

Tubi stories...he he

Best one for me was in the Dartford Tunnel same weekend as the Brands Superbike fest......got followed into the tunnel by 2 ducatis and a benelli...so I slowed right down and behaved in a very grey man way....the bikes flew up aloong side revving away....and i chanced a glance and they were all waving their hands up in the give it some ......so I did .... now with no cats too it is ridiculously noisy....they sutiably did the same and as we slowed behind traffic i complemented them on the Ducatis soundtrack...(awesome to say the least)...geezer raises his visor and says...you obviously havent sat behind you own car then cos that is f****** unbelievable......like a formula one car he said - flames and all...

Quality...when it comes from a biker it is well meant....

bikers used to LOVE the sound of the 355. I used to go out with about 5 of them, and my mates R1 had a race can, sounded the bollocks but was totally drowned out in tunnels on the A406 by the 355.

I miss that sound

Next toy I'm looking at will be a Ducati. Just starting to learn to ride just for that moment I can get a nice black or yellow one.

Fraser - you're a funny bastard man.... (take that Al!)

edited to say that Tubi on F355 is now reaching near-legendary status in Ferrari circles.... SUCH a great noise.

You noisy lot are a menace to society......

DAZ

PS - Ali, get some real bike experience on a low powered bike before moving up the hierarchy to the duke. You wouldn't go out having passed your driving test and jump behind the wheel of an Enzo would you?

No better on a 355 cos it screams and has a higher pitch - 360 sounds marvellous with a tubi but I think many will say that the 355 is more of a screamer - if you know what i mean

Basher, does your 355 spit flames, cos i've often wondered if mine does when you change gear at 8k rpm and theres often a loud pop/bang!

Mine does exactly same when changing gear at around 7500-8000 rpm. I know because on the way back from LeMans this year my mate in his 355 was following and phoned to let me know. Its even more dramatic in the dark! You get different reactions from different people when you overtake however!

No wonder the women ...

I'll stop there.

I dont think many cars sound near as good as a 355 with tubi decat.

Hi Simon

Since reading about your tunnel experience I went over to the airport in the Chimaera on Sat night about 8pm went through the tunnel 4 times, 2nd gear, and kept going till the rev limiter halted the proceedings The limiter on the Chim is set at 6250 revs, 8500 on the 355 must sound awesome. Did'nt get tugged by the law, though on my last 'sortie' through the tunnel I saw a marked T5 estate turning off the roundabout into the airport, so called it a day.

......And went back yesterday morning with the roof off for more jollification

Yea Martyn, that marked T5 must have been the plod who pulled me!! He must be getting real sick of Ferrari's and TVR's flying through that tunnel!! The 355 is just about finished from having the belts done, took longer than expected cos I told them to work on it when they were'nt too busy..save a bit of cash.Frightening thing was,Trev the technician rang me to ask me to come and look at it with the engine out,and points out the old belts which were covered in yellow bits of cloth,as was every thing else.Turns out one of those yellow dusters had got caught up in the belts..Holy shit!! Now I know where that bloody cloth had gone...

Glad your engine was not destroyed by the bits of rag

Are there any sound files knocking around of a Tubi on full song? As I have never heard one for real

Thanks

MOD.
