Changing the thread a little I know but what did you have? The only heli' even close in running costs to an F' car is an R22?(Is an R22 actually a heli'or a Radio Control Model he...he....he!!!) Certainly not a turbine? I had an Enstrom and it did not take much to go wrong to make a Ferrari look cheap. Tail rotor gearbox's bring back nightmares!!

Anyway so far the 360 & 355 have proved very reliable, scheduled maintenance only, no failures. Drive it as much as you want,or as much as you can afford.Be happy to have a Ferrari in the garage and only drive it 3k a year, but if you want to drive it everyday thats great too. Its YOUR car do as you wish. You never know when the day will come when you can't drive it, so SOD THE DEPRECATION, and have fun!

PS: I like cleaning it too!!

I've had a 355, a 360 & now another 355. Running costs as "much as a helicopter" no way! Not even if you do 50k miles a year. I know, I did the helicopter thing a few years ago!!

So have I and its cheaper!!

I would love to have a helicopter! Are they really 'cheap' to run?

No! After insurance, scheduled maintenance, un-scheduled maintance!!! hanger costs, landing fees, fuel, maintenance checks based on both number of hours used & time (3months, 6 months, 12 months) the costs can get exciting! But as long as you don't have a Robo R22 they don't realy depreciate much!

I guess they are OK unless something goes wrong.

Great fun for visting your mates if they have a big garden or taking your girlfriend out to lunch! Mine hated it so I had to give it up!!

Here, here, Spot on!!!

And you're right, you wouldn't get me up in a helicopter that wasn't a turbine. And turbine costs are in another league in either a helicopter of fixed wing. £15,000 for a Phase 1-4 and C of A anyone!!!

Helis are great - until the turbine rotors go - bank on a new 360 to fix (and they're reconditioned) - as they need to be balanced etc.

Costs are huge - but hey - what a toy!
