Alpine tour 2009

Excellent, even on the tight roads, helps to have a passenger though

Wasnt the esprit the last car on sale with pop up headlamps?.
I thought that too.
Nope - the last car to have popup headlights was the Ferrari 456 (end of production in 2003)
Hmm just checked, and you're right - esprit production finished in 2004

I know the world would be a dull place if everyone liked the same thing but really?? your a member of a car website and you dont like the Diablo ? this to me is what a supercar is all about.
Fully agree that the world would be a duller place without the Diablo or its ilk and who said I didn't like it? But liking and putting your money into one, when there are so many alternatives, is different. I lusted after a Countach when I was growing up, but now I can afford a supercar, practical considerations make it less attractive.

not really - my 6.0 was too mint to use

I took the Gallardo on an alpine trip last year which I know would have been a nightmare in the Diablo (narrow roads, tight turns etc)

I also have the Countach still and of the two that is the car I would prefer to own longer term

still enjoying yours??
Oh yes. Had it out for a commute last week. Good as ever.

Of course. (older) 911s pretty much the antithesis of the Diablo: fairly anonymous, reliable, small, 4 seats, could use every day (without major compromises)

Are those insurance quotes for real?

They make my limited mileage policy on my 03 Elise seem very, very expensive!

Epic.

I'm very envious of all you who own them. Maybe one day.

It is great that there are people willing to keep these alive but I still don't understand why anyone would buy one: brash, impractical, relatively slow (in anything but a straight line) and most likely painfully expensive to keep in good condition. Also, I'm sure not all owners are medallion-wearing, attention-seeking t**sers with complexes about the size of their manhood but if you don't fall into that group it must be tiring dealing with the preconceptions.
Plonker.

I'm sure he won't mind... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl6xBh22Kj8 looks really bad on the corners to me rolleyes, however I'm sure he did a clearer video too.

This is the PistonHeads forum! What other people think is irrelevant, besides, it's normally jealously imho.

The C5 Corvette had pop-up lights and ceased production in 2004 too.

The only other Lambo i would have is a 6.0! Love Jon and Shoebags cars and serioulsy tempted to sell the countach and buy a 6.0. Countach is more 'wild' and still love mine.
I have driven a few and I think they are nice. VT more security than 2wd as one one expect. Not as difficult to drive as a countach or at least if have power sterring. Better visability and more low down torque.
Haven't driven the 6.0 but understand and think it is accepted that it is the best of them! ( incoming flack expected)
You dont drive a lambo if you are shy or dont want people to look at you. Some of my mates refuse to go in the countach as they are so embaressed of everyone staring at the them although its the car doesent matter who is driving it!

PS
noticed a post suggesting slow in anything other than a striaght line!
Absolute crap! Even my old countach is still bloody quick by comparison to modern stuff. Biggest difference with mine is lack of brake security!
Much faster than say a 360 mid-top range or most porsches apart from turbo ones!
(more incoming expected)

With regards to the last production car with pop-up headlights, this thread came up with the answer as the DeTomaso Guara, still technically available in 2005.

I think the Diablo hasn't aged at all in the 20 years (!) the design has been in existence, still looks fresh especially the blue one in the article! Much nicer looking than the Murci IMO.

Diablo 6.0 VT (or a GT if I could find one) is absolutely top of my lottery win list. Still think they have more road presence than almost anything else and have barely aged in looks, much better looking than the Murci imo.

The yellow 6.0 VT at Cheddar a while back managed to outshine all sorts of interesting cars (vanquish, gallardo, vipers. nsx etc) to be a clear fave for a lot of people there (me included).
