Heard a rumour that this may not be happening, can anyone confirm please as the website hasn't been updated since last year and no mention of dates can be found anywhere.

I had a chat with Max last week about this. He confirmed that it wont be happening this year frown

Mainly because there werent enough people available to help organise it. such a shame as it was an amazing event

Thanks for the info, yes a great shame as I'd been for the last 3 years, let's hope it can return next year.

Theres 2 ways to look at this guys, yes its a shame that its not on this year, i`ve been since it started about 3 years ago now, but i did chat to one of the main organisers last year and told asked him if he new he was "ringing the shows neck" in other words, they priced themselves out.
I know traders and private entrys that refused to go again because they thought they were being ripped off ! so i think it was inevatable really, if only they`d have had a resonable entrance fee for both trade and public, the show for sure would have become one of the best in my opinion. I think they got too greedy.

^^

Thats what i assumed but Max said they just about broke even on the event. So not sure if it was the grounds that cost far too much to put the show on or what.

Im glad to have been a part of it for the last 2 years

The first year there were losses, but for a new event everyone involved was very happy.

Last year the losses were almost 10 times that.

It's not surprising that the number of people available to help out has reduced somewhat...

I heard from an extremely reliable and informed source that the show itself cost the organisation £100k to put on. That went on advertising, hire of venue, public liability insurance, toilets, marquees etc etc. I have shown my car at two events and like all those doing so, did not have to pay to enter. First year it seemed that the show had a large majority of the visitors in that category. Weather has then played a rather damaging role, the year before last was absolutely terrible weather which ruined the event. A real shame but then again which show organisation can afford to lose that kind of money.

There probably paying to much money to people like Stirling Moss, Tiff Needel and the likes to attend and say a few words,if they kept it more basic i`e reall enthusiasts attending with there cars at affordable entrance rates, then they`ll get success i`m sure.
I reguarly go to classic car events in Australia, where its a dollar to get in for the public and nothing for the show car owners, it works well because more people are likely to come along.

Last year there was Salon Prive, Windsor Concours and Chelsea AL all within a few days of one another. There may be no Chelsea this year but it looks as though Concours of Elegance will be at St James's Palace instead of Windsor this time.

Please excuse my ignorance but Max who? and is/was he the organiser? I thought that the event was a fundraiser for the hospital?

A real pity went to the show in 2011 as my son stayed in Chelsea Bridge Wharf at the time a fab show, cars that you will never see at shows up in Scotland.
Went again in 2012 stayed in the Pestana Hotel CBW a 5 min walk to the show as my son moved to Hampshire so no free digs this time .
The array of cars where special and by London prices admission was not OTT as there was a 2for 1 deal going . Have loads of photos of the events to look back on .

I think that the first show, which i think was 3/4 years ago now,WAS in aid of the Chelsea hospital, but as usuall it seems to have got hijacked by the likes of people/organisers thinking that we all have bottomless pits to visit these events.
Maybe they will learn a lesson one day, keep the costs reaonable and get more people will walk through the door, seems simple to me, they talk about big costs to stage the event, but surely paying for all the top names to turn up, such as Tiff, Stirling ect ect, i`m not saying i dislike these guys, i do, but it should`nt make a difference to the people coming to visit, i`m there to see the machines/sexy cars, not to see Stirling talking about his antics with Crumpet over the years ! god bless him :-)

I'm not surprised that it's not happening again.
I was displaying my Corvette in 2011 and what I found really amazing was that I had to pay for displaying the car AND for the entry! AFAIR it was £20 + £20.
So of course I didn't do it again in 2012, which was half the size of the previous year anyway. Probably most of the people were thinking the same as me...

£5 for visitors and £20 for exhibitors? Isn't that half the reason why AutoLegends isn't happening this year?
