Valence Hillclimb

It's a shame you felt that way. As Lee has said many hours of volunteers days help events like this run, without them there would not be shows like this.
That £10 was for charity to help the school, it probably cost you £10 to drive there and back home again but obviously you have money to burn.
I gave up my only day off to help marshal, 99% of the attendees thanked us for such a great event and were so pleased with the whole day. Just a shame it was ruined by arrogance

My sister in law works for Valence so took my little ones for a couple of hours in the morning, thought it was great, the Maserati GCS replica and the rolling burnout from the Shelby 350 were particulary good!
Yes I loved the Maserati driver with his white helmet sticking out! Straight from Goodwwod..... And yes Jason's burn outs will forever live on in the surface of the Tarmac, they might need a little , ahem, repair to the startline!
I know the car, its local to me.
I wouldn't worry, I recall him moaning about prices at the Pageant last year too.

It was a fantastic day with a lot of effort being put into the organisation. £10 to enter the car and £3 per run up the hill was well worth it in my opinion. We did 12 runs during the day, and despite the course being little more than 200yds long, it was great fun. As has been mentioned, to see the looks of the kids faces down on the start line was brilliant. We were driving the red '68 Mustang by the way.
My daughter-in-law works at Valence and I have seen first-hand what amazing work they do for such wonderful children. It is very humbling indeed so I will be supporting this event next year and will happily more to be part of it and help the school.
Some people choose not to spend their money on this type of event and that is their prerogative. However I would be surprised if you could get as much fun and enjoyment out of a day as my family and I did for what we spent yesterday. It was so well organised and barring one unfortunate encounter between a lovely Jag and a hay bale, went apparently like clockwork - there was even a Spitfire (I think) flypast!
I have loads of pictures, gopro footage and even some aerial footage to go through (including the Jag incident). I'm looking forward to seeing the ITV documentary, part of which was filmed at the event, including Mary Ellis, the 100 year old lady being re-united with an Allard similar to one she used to drive 70 years ago - she was a lovely and very interesting Lady!
(saw a couple of Pistonheads Smileys during the day too.)

Dazantor I do remember launching you off the line more than once! You must have been one of the most prolific hill climbers during the day, and the car sounded awesome!
Yes unfortunately the course is only half of what it could be, even so there was sufficient scope to have a accident for the unwary, as the poor Jaguar found out . He hit that bale quite hard and moved it about 15' and 6 of us could not shift it back! Took a tractor to do it. I hope the car was just cosmetic damage and not affected the chassis. And even though the run was short, as with bigger hillclimbs the spectators can rarely see more than a few hundred metres of the course even if it was a mile long, so the spectacle was just as good for the crowd.
Most of us volunteering compete in sprints and hillclimbs as a hobby, the dream one day would be that the course that ran back in the 80's and 90's could once again be used, but logistically it may never be possible. However I think even if it was ( which would mean only competition licence holders could compete ) I would always push to keep a public one for you guys running too, it provided just as much enjoyment for the kids and spectators as well as a unique experience you guys who helped make it a fantastic event.
On behalf of all those organising thanks to you guys for supporting the day.

Glad i never came i might have bumped into you, would have ruined the bloody day ! what a lovely fella you are !
Actually you did bump into me, I was the very polite guy on the gate who said you car was beautiful and would you like to park it in the display field? You replied yes, I directed you up towards the startline , " turn left just before and go through to the pay desk " Not sure how far you got..... Just got some feedback from the school, and let's just say the money raised in just that one day would buy a HUGE chuck of a brand new mini bus for the kids if they so wished.... And the head of the school is over the moon with the support , donations, conduct and behaviour of all that attended. He is 100% behind the event running next year bigger and better. Thanks to all the PH folk who attended

Great news, well done, look forward to next year. I'm glad this event was a success. I used to compete at this event, back in the eighties, in my Nova SR, Hillman Imp, then my Mazda 323 4x4. The one thing I remember, is the kids from the school, loved the event. 7 Oaks MC, poured a lot of time and money into it, especially after the great storm, and the club, paid for the new Tarmac. A lot of money was raised for the school, then Ron Noades, came along, and wanted access across, the Tarmac for his new golf course, gave the school a huge chunk of money, and goodbye another great venue
As for entry prices, £10 is nothing, when compared Porsche at the Castle, in Essex. The Porsches are part of the display, and ask £25!!, and extra for a passenger, now that really does take the p***!
Maybe if the unhappy members, on here had seen the kids faces, and seen how much joy, the cars revving off the line gave, they would've been happy to give more than a tenner.
Hopefully the MSA will give the event a permit for next year, I really hope so.
