NEC Classic Car show
Discussion
Last time I stayed in Brum I had an excellent curry at http://jilabi.co.uk, conveniently on the way from the NEC to the Arcadian Centre I think.
We went on Friday. I've been loads of times over the years
I enjoyed it but had the nagging feeling that there was more trade and not quite so many cars there this year
It's so huge it's easy to miss stuff but I didnt see, for example, any wedges etc.
You don't really expect to see new stuff but there was a dealer there selling stuff you'd see on any modern car lot TBH

Pretty much exactly this!I enjoyed it but had the nagging feeling that there was more trade and not quite so many cars there this year

I try to go every year. I try to go on the Friday because it's got the least number of blundering fools ...honestly, I've never been anywhere with such a preponderance of slow-moving, suddenly-stopping indecisive walking corpses since dear ol' nan's incarceration in the Sunnyside God's Waiting Room Care Home and Dogfood Recycling House... Every year seems to have fewer stands of cool old cars and more stands of chancers trying to sell you sub-ebay chod. Not sure why the Friday tickets are £7 more expensive than weekend day tickets, either... surely it wouldn't be a cynical attempt by the organisers to maximise profit on a day with smaller footfall through the gates? Food is atrocious, though commendable attempt to avoid the usual show franchised dogburger stalls. First thing we saw in the door was a La Ferrari... errrrm... Classic? Well, no, not really, but then it was on the stand of a massive insurance seller so I guess they could afford some of
Still and all, it's definitely worth a visit becuase the sheer size means even if there's plenty not to like, there's more still to be awestruck by and where else are you going to see such a huge and varied ouvre of motoring eccentricity in the depths of the winter car show dearth? For us it's a three-hour drive each way from the Sussex coast (about £100 of Premium unleaded and £8 premix 2T oil) plus the twelve quid parking fee (unavoidable really unless you like really long walks as the car park seems to cover a postcode on it's own so smeg knows how far away you'd have to park to not be in the NEC's financing zone!) plus £30-plus quid entrance charge each. So empahtically not a cheap day out, but still worth it on my own personal balance sheet.I mean, I got to see the only known Soviet ZAZ 1102 Tavria in the UK, so it was worth it for that alone. Errrrrmmm...
I went today with my missus- first time I've been to the NEC classic car show.
It was OK.
Without trying to sound too negative the things I didn't like are:
1) Not as many cars displayed as I thought they'd have.
2) Way too many trade stands.
3) Complete lack of food/snack stands.
4) The orange/yellow dim lighting is appalling. They really need to invest in LED.
I think I preferred the Pistonheads Sunday Service at the Sports and Classic show at Alexander Palace which was free.
My favourite stands were the Ford GT40 and MG 6R4.
It was OK.

While completely agree with points 1,2 and 4, there's no shortage of places to get all sorts of food from!It was OK.

If you leave late enough (7ish) the booths are usually unmanned. I haven't paid to park for years. Good tip, that
