Ah, yeah there was a CNC machine running on Friday, and a company at a stand nearby had a rather large 3D printer with them too.

Glad I always go on the Friday now!
There used to be dozens of machines, rapid prototyping specialists, half a dozen 3d printers/scanners, firms with bead rollers, tube benders, bandsaws, etc, etc - the stuff you need for motorsport fabrication. This time there was one firm with a CNC mill making pushbike pedals very slowly because, and I quote from the guy running it here "The customers here aren't the guys building cars any more, and the few that are have already seen everything we do"

I don't think they'll be there next year either. I was impressed with the new screens/software they're using though, just can't afford one hehe

Overpriced.

Retro Motorsport show is equally expensive and just hard to justify the trek up from Cornwall. Retro Rides Gathering is excellent value with an eclectic mix.

Went yesterday with a few mates was a good show but not worth £36 to get in and £12 to park I'll go in another 2 years but was a bit disappointed as it was my first time at the show. Having said that as we got our tickets matt neal walked past so seen a few drivers

Me and a friend went yesterday. The ticket prices were a bit much but we had a really good day so I can't complain. The live action show was good, a good mixture of different cars though there were far too many skylines/gtrs. Lots of scantily clad ladies so that was a win.

The only complaint I would make is the price of food/drink. £23 for 2 burgers and chips and 2 bottles of Pepsi. The Pepsi alone was £2.50 per bottle!

I'll go again next year but take my own food.
Also went yesterday, saw the prices of the food and ended up buying bits for the car instead hehe

Last time I went I had an MSA sprint license so went on a trade day and saw some fascinating equipment and companies, but the weekend show seemed to be basically a bunch of car clubs and suppliers.
I've been a few times, but only ever on trade days, are some of the stands and displays different on the general public days?

I've always went on the Friday because I can, no kids allowed, and figured it'd be quieter than the weekend, never occurred to me it'd be different though.
I believe so - not sure if this was always the case but the previous time I went there were engineering companies - one of which was creating a cylinder head with a CNC machine. Ideal example for a young chap as to why he really does need to do well in maths, physics, computing etc for a job and not just for exams. But nothing like that this weekend, plenty of companies selling rubbish like off cuts of hosing, drill bits, squeegees, tee shirts and books - just stuff you can buy anywhere.
Autosport is actually two shows in one, there is Autosport International, which runs from Thursday to Sunday and has the Autosport stage, Demon Tweeks, etc in it. Then there is Autosport Engineering, which only runs Thursday and Friday nad has all the interesting stuff in, with the CNC's engine builders, gearbox builders, etc.

Stopped going couple years ago due high price for ticket and parking
And lack of brands of car and loads and loads of stands selling stuff I would never need

I've been the last 3 years, this year was particularly bad in my opinion. I only go because I get media passes to get content for my Facebook. / YouTube. If I'd paid £35 for a ticket I'd be asking for a refund. Hardly any stands there compared to the last few, mostly just suppliers with a race car on the stand and hardly any supercars or Hyper cars

Are there any shows which are good value anymore?

The first few times I went to the NEC Autosport/performance car show I had fun, met up with mates and it was a good day/ weekend meet up. I have also had my car displayed up there at one point. But as with a lot of shows they become a bit samey. Same stands in the same positions year on year.
Displaying a car up there is expensive too, you have the logistics of taking the car up on a Wednesday then traveling back home by train, then more train travel back to the show and of course weather you decide to stay over in a nearby hotel and of course your time. Not too bad if you live local but it adds up when you live south or North of the country.

Last few years I have normally shared a car with a couple of mates and we split the parking etc but no doubt about it, it is not a cheap day out!

Thing is, the show is always busy and they must be raking in a hell of a lot of money.

But I did not bother this year. Its run its course for me frown

Yes - in that area both Race Retro at Stoneleigh (end Feb) and Ultimate Stance at Telford Intl Centre (Oct - trust me it's not as bad as it sounds) are much better value than the NEC shows. Race Retro is growing into a little gem on the calender actually.

Race Retro is inside/outside (rally stages & burnouts outside) & Ultimate Stance is mostly inside but some of the cars spill into a reserved area in the car park.

Not sure anyone knows what it is nowadays, just a show of whatever they can get their hands on, which seems to reduce year on year smile
