One of the best 'vehicle/transport' events in the year & all within a 'genuine' not faux period setting. Bicester Heritage events now a VERY close second.
The admission charge keeps out the free-loaders but together with the mid-year Double-Twelve event it is the busiest with the greatest variety of participating vehicles.

After last Year’s space challenges, everyone is welcome this year. We will have pre-1988 cars on the finishing straight and banking with modern classics and other in the Heights.
It is a great start to the year.

I went along today for the first time (I usually go to the impromptu Hartley Wintney event).
There were a lot of cars and people there (Great news for the Brooklands museum), but the cars were a very mixed bag (An awful lot of MGFs, for example, and some NEW MX5s - Pre 1988?????) and some pretty tatty looking wrecks of mundane cars.
I was a bit disappointed by the cars overall, although there were the odd gems in amongst the rather ordinary (And by ordinary, I don't mean basic saloons, they're all part of the classic car scene, but modded, fairly recent cars, neither original or classic), such as a race prepared ISO, some Bentleys, a Costin Amigo and a lovely MG of some sort (B-I think but unusually bodied).
Some of the cars in the post-1988 'supercar' area were a bit dubious too - I could have parked my Golf R in there and it wouldn't have been the least valid entrant!
I'd not been to Brooklands in a few years, so it was worth the entry anyway and it's good to see how things have developed since I was last in the Wellington hanger!
I doubt, though, that I'd make an annual event of it, based on what I saw and the cost of a visit.
BTW, do owners of classics pay or do they get in free?

My goodness there's a lot of car snobbery about.
The Brooklands Breakfast events are NOT just for classics whatever you conceive them to be, it's a meeting of car & vehicle enthusiasts & if you are a Brooklands member you have every right not to park in The Heights but within the site itself so as to enjoy the ambience & lovely atmosphere before the hordes arrive. . No doubt you sneered at the kit car & couple of modern SLK's in the 'supposed' Supercar car park.
Brooklands has always made available parking space within the site for 'moderns' sometimes out of the direct eye of others but so what?
There is no way the hard working marshals on the gates are going to censor a car just because it hasn't a leaping gee gee badge on the bonnet. In fact there is a dedicated Supercar event annually but again 'slightly' lesser cars get in, so wind your neck in & chill.
As for modern MX-5's, again so what? The club had booked space for 'MX-5's' NOT just MX-5's of a certain year or years & I'm sure the staff who run Brooklands had worked out that Mazda still make MX-5's & that God forbid a current model may let the side down & turn up. By the way the club members are amongst the most friendly of all the 8 clubs I have been part, but then the MX-5 is not a supercar thank goodness.
The event was a joy as are all Brooklands events I've attended in the last 20 years or so, but then I'm not a blinkered moaner & the displays in the newly opened aircraft hangers were breath-taking.

This+1. We had a cracking day today and, as always, really quite amazed at the sheer variety of cars & bikes in attendance. Where else on a cold wet January day can one see such a brilliant turnout! The Brooklands team have worked so very hard over the past years with this event and with the new 'working' hanger...it's all such great fun...can't wait to be back there next month for another Breakfast Meet. The event was a joy as are all Brooklands events I've attended in the last 20 years or so, but then I'm not a blinkered moaner & the displays in the newly opened aircraft hangers were breath-taking.
PS anyone else see the Blue V8 Tatra?
I went there this morning, I also thought it was great with a real mixture of cars and bikes.
Spoke to loads of people about their cars and found everybody really friendly, also walked up test hill and had a look in the Brooklands motor company workshop which had some brilliant cars on show, one of which was an immaculate MK2 Savage Cortina.

WJNB - Maybe they need to reconsider how they promote it then?
"New Year's Day Classic Gathering. Jan 1, 2018"
I don't have a problem with car shows with custom cars, American cars, whatever, but if a show is billed as a "Classic Gathering" and makes a big thing about being "Pre-1988", I expect to find that, especially when I'm paying £13.50 for the privilege.
All seems rather ironic as the OP mentioned that the charge "keeps the freeloaders away"... Obviously, doesn't work in reverse - Seems you could turn up in more or less anything and they'd take your money!
There were some great cars there, but some I felt out of place for the billng the event had and, as a paying customer, I don't need to keep an opinion that differs from yours to myself.
Someone mentioned a FIAT in the post-1988 area - Was that a tongue in cheek reference to a Ferrari or to the refreshing to see Barchetta?

Another enjoyable New Years Day meet a Brooklands. I last visited in April 2017 when there were lots building works going on, moving the hanger etc and the thats been done is amazing. It was nice to see the finishing straight, although it was covered with cars.

First time that I've been, no doubt the weather put some off.
That said, I thought it was a fantastic meeting. Really there was something for everyone, whether that be a MG or a ( classic or new ) Porsche, an Allegro wagon on a Beetle floorpan ( and the 100e next to it ), some lovely hot rods etc etc.
It was really busy so I hope Brooklands so well out of it. I wish they'd do a summer one too
And if you're a member, it's free entry. Hoorah. What's not to like ?
