The stars have aligned and I finally have a good opportunity to go and watch the n24!
I want to make a road trip out of it and hopefully include some good roads along the way.
So this is an open invite for PHers to join

- watch race on Sunday
- home by Monday evening

We are driving down Thursday night from Manchester and aim to get there by noon on Friday, coming back on Sunday
Asking a silly question perhaps, but what's the traffic like straight after the race ? I am leaving my car at a secure facility right by the GP circuit and flying back home from Cologne Bonn airport which is 50km drive - I fly back to Cologne 2 weeks later to pick up the car and drive down to France.
So I need to get a taxi to the airport straight after the race. Race ends 3.30, need to be at airport by 5.30 for 6.50pm flight - do you think if we leave straight after the race we can do it, or are we kidding ourselves and realistically need to leave just before the race ends, which I really don't want to do ?

I was looking at the weekend ticket, so watching the support races as well sounds like the best way to make the most of the weekend.Including the 6hr Classic.

What's the best solution for accommodation? I guess the local gasthaus get booked up long in advance...

It sounds do-able, but there's not a lot of room for things to go wrong. I drove from Cologne to Nurburg a few years back in June and I don't remember any difficulties, the infrastructure around there seems more able to deal with things like this than what we're used to along the M62 corridor. Personally, I'd want to build in a bit more of a time buffer.

The roads are rammed immediately after the race and personally I wouldn't bank on even finding a cab unless you have it all pre booked.
Leave yourself plenty of time during the race to take the buses around the circuit so you can watch from several different points. Also you should have full pit access and that is a great part of the whole experience.

The normal time for the trip from the ring to Köln/Bonn airport is a very comfortable hour.
If you leave straight after the race ends you could take an hour to even get out of the immediate area, then you have a traffic jam all the way from the ring to the motorway after Altenahr, which could easily take another hour, then you have another 30 minutes on the motorway to the airport.
Most people start leaving in dribs and drabs around lunchtime on the Sunday which helps, but you then have the others who all leave at the same time straight after the race finishes and it's one big traffic jam.
You'll also be parked a good 20 - 30 minute walk from wherever you're spectating, it's a rather large track.

Luckily, I'm going to be at the aston hospitality, so between the roof of the Dorint and their permanent performance facility down the road where I'm leaving the car. So at the end of the race, I'll be at the Dorint, with bags in hand and won't need to go back to the car
But it's that getting away from the ring which is the concern, although I should be ahead of those who wait until the end of the race because as you say, most people will then have a walk to their car
I think the answer is to leave at c 2.30 to be sure - thanks again !

They have shuttle buses between the Dorint and the performance centre all through the weekend - having looked at maps, it appears to be about 2-3 miles between the two
They also use the shuttle buses to go out to different parts of the track, although I'm sure I'll do plenty of walking too - hospitality is great to use as a base but I do like to soak up the atmosphere properly at a race.

Well, I'm a bit surprised that there's no interest in a PH group event. Especially given all the other group events & the support that Lemans gets...
Any idea of what kind of number of Brits go to N24 ? For LM24, it's of course huge for Brits - the ferries & eurotunnel are dominated by LM attendees on the Thursday & Friday before the race, as are the roads & service stations from the French coast to LM. You don't even need to arrange a convoy, you can just join one !For N24, I've no idea what to expect - obviously the numbers are far lower, but whether it's miniscule numbers who drive over from the UK, I've just got no idea ?
