Ah I see this now.

Do you have to take the co-driver with you for the timed stages?

Great!! That means the doors then, hope they don't pull the paint off. (TVR...you never know biggrin)

I did a sprint with Javelin - the number stickers on the paint pulled all the lacquer off - made a right old mess. I'd only put the stickers on the windows.
Slap some decent wax on the paintwork first - makes them easy to remove

Air field will be as they say..broken concrete.

We did a Woodbridge trackday few years back and didn't anything noticeable bar some front end stone chips...however more at risk on a trackday as following other cars!

TIMED TESTS

There are a lot of questions/concerns about the timed tests, so hopefully I can clear up any concerns. These are very small as this first event is aimed at complete novices to give a taster of what we are working towards for next year.

As a result, the timed tests are very short and in a small space; you won't even get out of first gear. They will take maybe 15-20 seconds and there's no loose gravel. You can wear a helmet if you like and keep your passenger(s) in the car if you so wish, but neither are compulsory. Your route book will have a diagram of each test in the back and you'll be able to watch others doing it before you, which'll give you a good indication of how to run the (very short) route.

We just want to set expectations now, but you won't be doing any fast cornering or high speeds, that's for sure! smile

Can you run numbers on your car when you are going on the public highway? or do you have to put a cross through them.
For the format of our event yes you can, and will be doing so. Each sticker will have your entry number on it.

Dilemma- if they are small enough to fit the rear 1/4 light then they will be too small to see - if they are bigger they will need to go on body work...not so good...
The stickers will be A4 size. If you're really worried about them damaging your paint work, you could buy a couple of magnetic sheets to put the stickers on to. That's what I did when I was sprinting my Clio last year so I could easily fit/remove my stickers for each round.

Shame that won't work on a fibreglass bodied car though frown

Gewy will be in a plastic car there using these - he's done a few rallys in the past and they've worked very well - probably just need an A4 sheet of thin lexan to provide a surface to stick the sticker too

I have Javelin stickers on my car from last year. I haven't sprinted since but they seem too risky to pull off. - plus they look cool.

Maybe a bit of duct tape then if you're worried? Should do the job nicely! I've used duct tape in the past on my sills/around wheel arches when driving on air fields to protect the car from stone chips, and always comes off easily.

I haven’t seen an answer to this question

What in the way of catering is going to be available at the midday “off road” section or do I need to consider bringing a pack up for team taxi

Sadly I'm going to have to duck out of this. I look forward to hearing how everyone gets on and getting involved in future PH events of this type.

There will be a caterer serving hot food (burgers and the like) so packed lunch isn't necessary. Unless you don't like burgers! But I know you do at least...

To all,

We have a double room reserved at the Holiday Inn that we've decided we no longer need. The plan is to drive home after. If anyone wanted a room and has been unable to book as its full please let me know and we can sort on the day to take our reservation. If no one is interested I will simply cancel the reservation. I'll wait until tomorrow for any replies.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Tony and I went for a test run yesterday and really enjoyed it. It has been a couple of years since I last used a Tulip Road Book and it was a fantastic experience to do it again. Naturally I messed up a few times and insisted that a right turn was a left, but luckily Tony knew better and didn't let me take us off in the wrong direction. I might let him do the navigating when we lead in the course car on Saturday...

Lets get our priorities right – BREAKFAST

Anyone wanting to get breakfast at the hotel, you can buy a breakfast voucher at reception (cheaper than buying brekky directly in the restaurant) for £10 for a full English buffet. You can also get breakfast baps in the bar, but that doesn't open until 09:00 so won't be any good for early arrivals.

Tulip Road Book introduction video

This is a bit rough and ready, but you can check out the video here for anyone who wants a heads up on how to use the road book. We'll be more than happy to help answer any questions on Saturday morning, but it's worth a watch for anyone a bit nervous about using one.

A few tips to help you enjoy the day

Firstly and most importantly – don't rush. The day isn't timed, so take the time to enjoy the scenery, the drive, inevitably missing a junction or two and taking part in the short tests. Driving at a steady pace, everyone should comfortably be back by 18:00 ahead of the trophies being handed out at 19:00.

  • Arrive with a full tank of fuel. The route is 120 miles and there are no petrol stations on the route. There's a Tesco Extra just down the road from the hotel where you can get your Momentum 99 (postcode IP8 3TS).
  • Drive sensibly. We'll have a driving standards observer at various points and anyone driving dangerously will be kicked off the event and banned from all future events. Suffolk Police have also been informed that the event is taking place and may patrol parts of the route.
  • Download a tripmeter app on your phone – we used 'Rally tripmeter'. Stick your phone to your dash with some double sided velcro and make sure you have enough battery or a charger to keep it going all day.
  • Make sure you've got drinks and snacks (as required) as there aren't many village shops to stop off if you require some refreshment (we found out the hard way).
  • Bring a pen/pencil/highlighter so you can scribble on the road book and strike out the directions you've taken.
  • You can use a map or have a sat nav running in the background to help identify junctions that are coming up.
  • Bring some cash for lunch. The caterers will be serving hot food at Parham airfield, where you can stop for a break after completing the timed tests.
  • If you've got multiple passengers, let them take it in turns to navigate. A good change over point will be at one of the marshalled check points on the route.
  • Ensure you're back at the hotel for trophy presentation at 19:00.
  • And finally – if you're with your better half and get into an argument – probably best to swap over for a bit!
Any further questions please feel free to fire away, otherwise we'll see you all on Saturday thumbup

Really looking forward to it, but glad we booked to stay at the hotel the night before, albeit we will be late arriving.

We are one of the later numbers (106) and so if someone who has to travel with an earlier start wanted to swap, I would be willing, providing of course Ben and the organisers can accommodate such a change.

I think it will be a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Regards,

Dave.

Hi all, for some reason my payment details were lodged in my spam ( car 71)
I have just paid for my entry and updated the wiki accordingly.

What is the proffered hotel as there are two holiday inns in Ipswich?, we plan to arrive Saturday afternoon.
At what point do we receive the running order, map book etc?

Cheers and look forward to seeing you all.

Slightly concerned for your arrival day - you'll miss rather a lot of the event..................

There was another hotel mentioned a few pages back - I'll see if I can drag it out again

So I only stumbled a cross this thread today - but as described before the Holiday Inn is fully booked - there are places at the Muthu Belstead Brook Hotel and if you go direct to their site you get a 20% discount - £61. Has a pool, bar, restaurant etc - job done.
