Gotta say, I really enjoyed the challenge of a wet session. However, the standard of driving ..... AGAIN!!!!!........ didn't match the driving conditions. PH track sessions should be for people enjoying their P&J in a relatively safe environment (hence low numbers and overtake rules), not an opportunity for track hacks and playboys to come along and barge their way around at Mach 1. Also, an intermediate session I don't think should be where you do a pleasure ride in your priceless Porsche turbo, as beautiful as it was.

I was on the 10.10 session. the guy in the white Mégane did exactly as I'd expect of a courteous driver. As did the white escos owner. Fast, but safe and keeping those around him in mind. I hate to be negative about a meet like this but it's not a track day. It's a taster.
Didn't notice anything particularly bad in the 09:00 and 10:10 sessions. A few people were going around sedately but understandable with the conditions in mind. Closest call was the VX220 going down the start finish straight at about 50mph which caused a bit of a queue. Will post the videos of those two sessions soon when they're done uploading.
The VX220 going slow down the straight was me recovering after spinning and nearly hitting the wall. Apologies but stalled on the spin as well as ruining my pants.
Agree 100% - I go to a taster session. Then find myself being overtaken by Track Megan’s mid corner on a mission. I hold my line on the corners ready to move over in the straights - all good as the brief instructed.
But then get hauled into Race control because said tts have kicked off at the Race Director.

After a patronising ‘chat’ with him telling me how to use my mirrors I just walk out.....
I’ve done Nring 6 times (5 days each time) so I’m not a novice with no issues at all. First time at Silverstone - put me off tracks days there for sure.
Well done Silverstone - you’ve put this guy off your sessions. Obviously ‘taster session’ in the Silverstone dictionary means you need to be fekin Lewis Hamilton.......
I assume that was you in the Vantage AMR then?

I'm glad race control spoke to you after your complete lack of awareness. At one point you must have had around 20 cars stacked behind you and yet you still refused to move over and let cars past.

I don't agree with what some drivers were doing to try and get past you, but after several laps of your piss taking people were obviously fed up.
The grey/silverAston Martin with Green stickery bits on it? Unbelievably shocking driving. No spacial awareness, keeping well left purposely coming out of a corner whilst going really slow and blocking people trying to overtake out of corners then hoofing it down the straight and doing it all again. Really really poor driving whoever that was. Just keep right and let the traffic past.

Everyone else seemed to be driving fine but this person should give up and get their busspass.

Cracking day at Silverstone as always me and my mates have been doing this for 5-6 years as an opportunity to test our cars prior to Germany etc... however on the 11.20 I’ve seen some chat about an Aston MARTIN having multiple complaints and I’m sorry mate but you said you’ve been to the Nurburgring 5-6 times... to watch?
I see your complaining about my mates in meganes shouldn’t of been driving so slow and so unaware for them to overtake you, shame we all lapped you.
With that sort of attitude you shouldn’t be doing trackdays as it puts people at risk doesn’t matter what car your in.

We watched most of sessions inside Copse corner and noticed the Vantage as a mobile roadblock.

Sunday Services have been lacking a little this year so was pleased to make this one.

Bubbled over a little late as just set off a bit later than hoped! Takes just over an hour to Bubble down.

The Bub slipped a little on the road with the greasy surface so not surprised to hear the track was a little twitchy! Well done!

Thanks to all attending, Silverstone for hosting and PH for organising smile

stock bubble pic as didn't take many snaps this time

My pleasure, gents.

If anyone wants the full resolution, non-compressed (Grrr Flickr) images of their cars, I’m happy to send these out in exchange for small additional donations to the mission motorsport chaps.

It appears I went full plonker yesterday with my footage......

Dragy app: left phone at home so no footage or data
Window GoPro: Thought it was in video mode but was in photo mode, so got a pic of the pits on exit and a pic of the pits on return.
Seat GoPro: Average quality as it moved after sideways moment. I'll upload tomorrow.

Here is my passenger footage. We stopped after the MX5 spin.

Was in the white M2, didn't want to pass you around the outside of Copse for fear of exactly the same thing happening as the MX5 laugh

Mr Aston Martin AMR
The thing about a taster session is the following, it's purely designed to give you a taste of a track day, regardless of how fast your going someone else will be going faster, a couple of Megane's were actually testing new setups, so these cars will be driving at a decent pace, however they will happily move out the way, the closing speed may have made you think they were racing around but they were purely just driving faster, you will see this at a track day and you will still be required to move over, holding your line on the corner and exit is fair enough but I struggle to see why you then accelerate down the straight not letting other cars pass in a straight line. And to be fair if your using your mirrors you will see cars approach before you hit your braking point then as you apex then exit it's just easier to peal of to the left and indicate, I will personally indicate as I apex to show my intent to the other car I will move over. I drive a 120bhp ford puma and I will regularly find cars slower than me in corners however I don't have straight line performance, so people like you become a serious problem! I had to back off a few times which on a track day is fine when you have the whole day however on a 30 minute taster, it becomes annoying.

I was just watching but commented to my friends that I'd have been getting extremely annoyed behind the quite frankly awfully driven Aston Martin.
Your speeds into and through the corners were ridiculously slow to the point of being dangerous. Terrible driving and I hope i never share a track with you.
Especially if as others have said you were then hoofing it off down the straights.

As a mediocre driver, running AR-1’s and too stiff a set-up I knew I’d be getting past by most but it wasn’t that hard to keep an eye on the mirrors and let quicker cars past. Admittedly some corners were a little busy at times but overall it was good fun and there was only the one car who seemed either lost or to have a mechanical issue? Yes, there were some cars going far quicker than others, but I felt confident enough in both their abilities and my own, to feel sure we wouldn’t tangle. When a car is barrelling along oblivious to everything else around them? Erm, not so much. smile

I was stood on the pit wall watching the AMR holding up scores of cars and there was no need for it - get well over, get well off the loud pedal and let the train past. Once you've done that, you'll have a huge amount of clear track to have fun in. It was clear that there were many frustrated cars around lap after lap.

The green buggy thing in my session was happy going slowly but did their best to keep out the way of the rest of the cars for the most part.

Anyway...

I thoroughly enjoyed my session (10:45, video to follow). I've watched the video back a couple of times and I think there's a fair few things I could do a lot better next time out - I reckon I could have been quite a lot more committed through Brooklands and Luffield - I stayed way too tight through the latter when Ving it off would have been much better.

Given the conditions and after watching the VX220 narrowly miss the pit wall and seeing a fellow E92 M3 crashing I decided I wasn't going to push it through Woodcote or Copse. I'm most disappointed that I wasn't 20-30% more committed through Maggots and out onto the Wellington straight though.

Brake temp was an issue - after the first 7 or 8 laps building up my speed I got quite bad fade towards the end of the big stop into Brooklands and from then on I had to concentrate on managing brake temps for a few laps. After I'd got them to come back to me and I was more confident I wasn't going to collect another car on the way into any of the corners I managed a 1:26.

Kudos to the driver of the red Golf - going very well all things considered!

Always enjoy the in-car videos, especially the commentary wink The Alfa is quite rorty, sounds good!

Just to clarify, I wasn't trying to undertake or cut you up when I came through (507), I was holding my line behind and letting you get on with the corner. Sorry if this upset you, it was not the intention at all thumbup

No, it's cool. At first I thought you were going to do a bonkers undertake and then saw you switch left as we came round the corner. I'd seen the blue Porsche do the same with the Mégane earlier so was wary of the manoeuvres. I was actually more impressed by the speed you took in that corner. Brave shout in the C63 lol. I was in race mode throughout do no TC or Collision Control. Fancied learning the car more than driving off the aids.

The blue Porsche in question saw a right hand blinker on the Megane wink
I gave him enough room to make the apex at Brooklands but he had clearly seen me and moved over. Looks worse from your perspective I must admit.

Kind of you to say! I think for several laps the black e46 was leading myself then you? Was a good start to the session keeping good pace with each other. beer

I thought the standard of driving in our session was pretty good and I was genuinely surprised I kept up with some of the more powerful machines as well as I did. Had to really be careful with under-steer through luffield and becketts. But considering sport contact 5s down to 3mm all round and a totally OEM brake setup, the car handled the conditions and duration really well.

Maybe all those laps on Forza paid off..

Great! I tried to be respectful of others at all times - this is a "fun" session with lots of different cars / abilities, not an F1 quali session! I was concentrating on my own lines in / out of corners, enjoying the challenge of driving the car in the wet ("Manual" drive mode and "Sports Handling" chassis mode). There was the occasion where some had indicated and moved over in what I'd term "the corner", so I was always super cautious in those situations, giving folks room and trying not to scare / upset anyone!!

The AMG was really good on the track and metering out the power onto the straights, without inducing wheel spin was very satisfying. I enjoyed the challenge of keeping it fast & neat, lap after lap smile
