Do I get extra points for wearing a flat cap and smoking a pipe?
Points for the pipe, absolutely
We've all got a flat cap, so, nothing for that I'm afraid

How he made it I'll never know.

I very much expected it to be on its roof before Penzance!
He passed us on the A30 and disappeared.
He then passed us again in in Lowestoft, shouting rubbish out of the window
He reckoned he had stopped for a McDonalds

Eyes like pi55 holes in the snow

Had a crash (more details in the 'show us your crash pics' thread). Received news yesterday that upon further examination, the car's a write-off - bent chassis - and I now need to look for another car. In any event, I still doubt my chances of being able to make RAtS this year. A pity as I was really looking forward to it. It's going straight in the diary for next year, though.

Good luck
As long as it was only the car that was hurt

Hope that the insurance companies get their act together and you don't have to fight them for your money

I've already got next years provisionally booked as well. Hopefully the insurance company won't be too much hassle

Maybe do the run in a cheap snotter?

I imagine there's loads of cheap bangers knocking round. I got my first car for £400. A 2004 Ford fiesta

Fingers crossed with the insurance. They'll be coming out this week so we'll see what we can do. Just a matter of finding a semi-reasonable vehicle for day-to-day use. Struggling to be quoted less than £2k for insurance, even on stuff like a Vauxhall Corsa.

Surely DayInsure is something like 30 quid per day max?

Buying a cheap snotter for extra peril must be worth bonus points biggrin

I am thinking I might say 'stuff it' and do this, although I would be a broken man by the time I've effectively driven across the country twice to get to the start, do the run and then get home, lol.

If you can find a co-pilot, then go for it, if not, it's a real tough ask to do it on your own

Just been having a look, there are some planned roadworks on the A12 near lowestoft between 20:00 and 05:00. The diversion is huge

Cycysputnik is right, it's not good for record trip times

I'm a young man so yes, unfortunately my premiums are back up to where they were when I passed my test in 2019. Short term insurance isn't really suitable for my needs - I don't have a car I can borrow (given recent events, nobody I know who has a car will lend it to me!)

As for finding a cheap banger, the idea has crossed my mind but I really need a car I can live with for a bit - the next year or two at least, until my premiums begin to come down to a more manageable sum.

The roadworks will make it more challenging.

There is a shorter diversion, but it's mostly little country roads, but at 3/4 AM they should be quiet

If you know the area, or are good at planning, there's plenty of shorter routes. Mutford & Ellough, for example aren't too bad. The main diversion is on main roads to accommodate HGV's and artics etc as usual. It's not a busy route anyway but no doubt it will add some unwelcome time.

The shorter way adds about 10-15 minutes, The signposted way adds around 25-30. Like an earlier comment said, not a good year for setting record times (that's a reason to do it next year), should still be doable though

When we did i (2017 I think), there were 4 youngsters in a Saab.
On the 21st, one of them drove from Leeds to Manchester, to join his mates.

They then drove to Lands End, then, overnight to Ness Point and then back to Manchester.
The one lad, then drove back to Leeds.

About 1000 miles we thought.

Nice lads

Looks like there are going to be some roadworks where the A303 meets the M3 on the Monday Night / Tuesday Morning. If that's the way you plan on going
