It wasn’t an easy run this year due to the roadworks, that’s for certain! But on the other hand we all took an interesting route that we probably wouldn’t have taken otherwise. The roads after the M25 made the night for me, particularly the early morning fog and the light blue sky over the horizon, with the moon to our right. Epic.

However, the A143 road chippings were awful. The first stretch took me by surprise, and I had to drive at 10-15mph to keep the awful sounds of rocks hitting the underbody to a minimum. I took the first right turn onto a country lane (paved, lots of rabbits) to avoid another stretch along the chippings. The detour only added a minute to the ETA. But the next set of chippings was even worse - it came up out of nowhere and was a tad dangerous, the ABS squirming, and the car wobbling all over the loose surface in an effort to slow down. So watch out!

Overall it was an amazing night - a great drive, perfectly dry weather (with enough dead bugs on the car to make an insect burger or two), and of course the people doing the run.

It was great to meet everyone and hope to see you guys next year! Cycysputnik - here’s to your now obligatory “Land’s End to Ness Point 2023” post in January/February!

I’m enjoying reading the right ups. Still undecided if I’m going on not this year biggrin I left it later this year to make this page. Pretty sure I made the 2021 post in September 2020. But unless someone beats me to it, I’ll be making the page early ‘23

A final note (I think) from me;
I know I said that I wouldn't, but I did . . . . . . .couldn't help it.

My figures for the run, which, I have to say, I'm quietly very pleased with.

Total miles driven; (Home - Home) 898
Fuel used; 113.75 litres (25.03 gallons)

Total cost of fuel; £219.91
Average cost; £1.93 litre (£8.78 gallon)
Cost per mile; £0.245

Given the current cost of fuel and the potential for easily spending over £2.00/Litre, I think we did well

This hasn't put me off doing the run again next year . . . . assuming I'm fit and able to do it

As I suspected, I wasn’t able to make it in time last night. Stopped off at Tavistock for the night. All set for this evening though. Video is out. Search for backroadhero on you favourite video watching service.

What a blast that was on the 21st !!
A very decent turn out including 3 evoras, Elise, (my) sport brake, C45, 208 GTI, M4, R32, Suzuki swift, a Mclaren employee in a ford focus.

Nearly all of us made it. One Evora had a flat battery so was a late starter.

Most Awesome award must go to the Jag XJ driver. Having set off (with other XJ and Daimlers) from John O Groats at 0400, arrived at Lands End around 1930, a couple of coffees and off he goes to Lowestoft, arriving a couple of seconds ahead of me at 0415.

Unfortunately there was a lot of road works and closures (A12), and a few speed tickets in the post (not me....I hope!).
It was great to welcome the combatants at Ness Point on a beautiful and tranquil morning.

Thanks for the write up!

It looks like the 21st was the more popular night then for the drivers… only 4 cars did it on the 20th. But Ness Point was absolutely packed though - there’s no way we could’ve taken a pic like that without having to shoo off thirty sun-gazers!

The XF driver - what an absolute legend if he did that on his own without a co-driver.
